Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. John Earner
have returned from Lansing, Mich.,
where they spent a pleasant three
weeks, visiting. Walter Hamilton of
Atwood is employed by D. Douglas in
the tin shop, in place of Wm. Adair,
who has gone to Wingham.
Bluevale—Last week Jos. Pugh vis-
ited his son, Chester, who is working
in the station at Brantford. R. J,
Cantelon, now of Wingham, who re-
cently- returned from Alberta after sell-
ing his farm there, is visiting old
school chums around here.
Whitechurch—J. T. Holmes has pur-
chased the hardware business of Mr.
Dobie. On Wednesday evening, Jan-
uary 18th, the Presbyterian Church in
Whitechurch was the scene of a very
pretty wedding, when .Sarah Florence,
second daughter of Mr. Hector Mac-
Kay, was united in marriage to Mr.
James Walter Markle of Wawota,
Sask.

New 'Post Office—Wingharn's new
Post Office was opened for business
on Wednesday morning.
Hockey Games—The second home
game in the Northern League was
played in Wingham on Monday night,
between Wingham and Harriston, and
was won by Wingham 5-2. For the
3ocalS, Elliott and Fleming were the
star performers, Johnston and McGill-
ivray played a good double cover.
Moore, in the local goal, had little
work to do. E. Wettlaufer of Berlin
was referee, Line-ups: Wingham—
Elmer Moore, goal; Doug. Wilson,
point; Ivan Johnston, cover point; Jim
McGillivray, rover; Hal: MacLean,
centre; Alvi Fleming, left -wing; Ted

On Friday night the Wingham Bus-

Hospital Opening—The opening of
Wingham Hospital is dated for Thurs-
day of this week.
High Water—The water in the Malt-
land was very high on Saturday, and
baby have returned after spending sev-
eral weeks with friends in 'Toronto.

Tied at Kincardine--,The Wingham
senior hockey club played their league
game in Kincardine on Friday evening
last. The game was the cleanest, fast-
est exhibition of hockey ever played in
Kincardine, and resulted in a tie, 3-3,
after thirty minutes of overtime. Ev-
ery man on the Wingham team played
splendid hockey and they have devel-
oped into a nice working outfit. Line-
ups: Wingham—Goal, H. Aitchison;
defense, R. Cruikshank and A. Lock-
ridge; centre, G. Howson; wings, L.

Double Wedding at Blttevale—An
interesting event in the form of a
double wedding took place in the ves-
try of Bluevale Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday evening, January 17th. Miss
Jean Pocock, of Winglim, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. David Pocock of Ford-
wich„ and formerly of Turnberry, was
married to Mr. Leonard Elliott, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Elliott, Blue-
vale Road, and his sister, Miss Estella
Elliott, was united in marriage to Mr.
Isaac Stewart Cowan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Isaac Cowan, Blyth, Rev. Tate
performed the ceremony.

Davidson—In Wroxeter on Tuesday,

bride's father, Mr. John Davidson, by

Frank King and intends moving to

Wroxeter—Mrs. Wendt, of Mildmay
is at present visiting at the home of
her son, J. R. Wendt , of town. Mark
Allen left one day last week to stay
fora time with his aunt in Teeswater,
Bluevale—Miss Lila Gray and Mr.
Roger Oke were married at Toronto
on Saturday.

Mrs, Edward Gaunt passed away on
Women's Institute Meeting •
The regular monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute was held on Tues-
day last at the home of Mrs. George
McClenaghan with the President, Mrs.
Cecil Falconer in charge of the meet-
ing. The roll call was answered by:
"An important act of courtesy". Mrs.
Jas. Falconer resigned from the office
of Secretary-Treasurer, and Mrs. Vic-
tor Emerson was appointed to succeed
her. The following program was then
given: readings, by Mrs. Ben Mc-
Clenaghan and Miss Olive Terriff.
Miss Agnes Mackay gave a paper on
citizenship, . and Mrs, Dawson , Craig
gave a humorous reading on "Posture
and Grace". Mrs. W. R. Farrier gave
two readings, "Do it now" and "My
Daily Prayer", Mrs. Lance Grain kept
the meeting up-to-date with current
events. Mrs, W, R, Farrier extended
an invitation for the ladies to meet at
her home for the February meeting,
which was gladly.accepted, A vote of
thanks was tendered the hostess for
the use of her home for the afternoon.
Mr. Sidney. Hewitt of Coronation,
Alberta, arrived here this week to
visit at the home of his uncle, Mr. R.
5. Ross and with Holyrood friends,
Mr, Hewitt is a Veteran of the First
World War. His wife came East with
him and then went on, to spend some
months with her people in England,
Mr, Thos, Gaunt of, Wingham at-
tended the January meeting of the
Kinl6ss Council in Holyrood last
Tuesday, We are sorry to learn he
has been under the doctor's care since.
Mrs. Chas. Mackay of Brussels is
visiting this week at the home of her
brother,,Mr. Walter Lott.

Benefit Dance
A large crowd gathered in the Mem-
orial Hall here last Tuesday evening
to attend the benefit dance for Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Laidlaw, whose home was
burned down lately, The Red Cross
Societies of Lucknow and Langside,
assisted with pillows and bedding, and
they received thirteen new quilts. Dur-,
ing the evening, when Mr. Russell
Gaunt read an address, Mr. Miles Mac-
Millan presented them with $112, for
which they expressed their -sincere
thanks. They were able to move to
the house across the road on Saturday,
and all are pleased that they have
foUnd a new home so near to their
farm and work.

Chamber of Commerce Annual—The
annual meeting of the Wingham
Chamber of Commerce will be held in
the Council Chamber on the eveninng
of Tuesday, February 9th, for the pur-
pose of receiving the Treasurer's re-
port, electing the officers for 1932 and
any other .buSiness that may be
brought before the meeting, Presbyterian W. M. S.
The regular monthly meeting of the
W. M. S. of the Presbyterian Church
was held on Thursday last at the home
of Mrs. Murray, with the President,
Mr. Robert Mowbray in charge of the
meeting. Mrs. A, Sutherland read the
Scripture lesson and Mrs. Murray led
,in the Glad Tidings Prayer. Mrs.
Ezra Welwood had charge of the medi-
tation period and Mrs. Mowbray had
charge of the topic, speaking on Africa
and the earlier missionary work there.
Mrs. Jas. McInnis . gave a reading on
prayer. Mrs. Mowbray closed the
meeting with prayer for the missionary
workers.

children, spent the week-end with his

Innerkip.
Mr. Raymond St. Marie of Kitchen-
er, spent .the weekend with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. St, Marie,
Mr. Jas. Wilson received a heavy
cut across his hand one clay last week,
when it came in contact with the big
revolving saw.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gillespie and
Donna May., of Mimico, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. G. Gillespie, and Miss Winni-
fred Farrier of Toronto and Mr. and
Mrs. Carman Farrier of New Toronto,
also spent the week-end with their par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier, and
all attended the reception for Mr, and
Mrs. 'Carman Farrier at Belgrave Hall
on Friday night, when Garnet Farrier's
orchestra provided, music for dancing.
This community extends sympathy
to the family of the late, Susan Cun-
ningham, who passed away at her
home 'in E. Wawanosh„ during the
fierce storm of Tuesday and Wednes-
day last. Mrs. Cunningham was high-
ly respected by -all who knew her, and.
all regretted that she had been so ill
when alone during the storm.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Purdon and
children of Belgrave, visited on Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. Amos Cornel-
ius. Athos has been laid up for the
past week with a sore arm and side,
having been injured when he slipped
and fell on the ice.
Mr. 'and Mrs. Albert Coultes and
family spent the weekend at Paisley,
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tilos.

Friday on account of the serious illness.

Monday last after an illness of about
six week, in Wingham Hospital. For-
merly Bessie Pryor, she was married
twice. First to John Wilson in Sas-
katchewan, who passed away in 1929,
and later to Mr. Edward Gaunt of 1 Knloss, who predeceased her over
three years ago. She had one daugh
ter, who also predeceased her, and
one grandson, Cecil Froome of Wing-
ham, and two great grandeildren. One
brother, Arthur Pryor of Port Arthur,
and two sisters also survive. The fun-
eral was held on Wednesday last, from
the home of her cousin, Mrs. Small-
man of Teeswater,- with whom she
had made her home. Her son-in-law,
Mr. Froome from Northern Ontario,
was here to attend the funeral.,
A reception was held in the Red
Sehool, East Wawanosh on Friday ev-
ening for Mr. and 'Mrs. Gordon Bos-

this week attending County Council.,
