Mrs, J. N. Allen was called to Tor-
'onto last week owing to the illness of
Miss Ross, at the home of Mrs. J, J.
Allen. Miss Ross's many friends in
Wroxeter will wish for her a speedy
recovery,
Mr. Will Fraser, who spent a week
with friends here, returned to his home
at Ridgetown, on Thursday.
Mrs. Marie Morris of Fourth line of
Howick, was a,, visitor last week with
her aunt, Mrs. W. S. McKercher.
Mrs. J. L. Foster spent the week-end
with friends at London,
Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Rae of Hanover,
were guests on Saturday of the form-
er's mother, Mrs, D. W, Rae, who ac-
companied them home for a week's vi.

Mrs Vern Denny spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Denny
at Teeswater. Mr. Denny and Miss

Mrs. W. S. Hainstock of Shannon,
Sask., also Mrs. I. J. Gainble of Ford-
wich, spent a few days last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. D, S, MacNau-
ghton. •
Misses Margaret and Jean (Moffat,
spent the week-end in London, the
guests of Miss Eleanor Ashton.
• The many friends of Mrs. jos. Lov-
ell will be pleased to knew she is
making a good recovery from her re-
cent illness while a patient in Wing-
ham General Hospital.
Owing to Christmas Examinations
at Continuation School, the Young
People's Union have withdrawn their
weekly meeting.
Twelve ' members of the. Young
People's Union attended The Crusade
Cavalcade held at Wesley United
Church, Clinton, three days of last
week.
Dr.I Maxwell and Mrs. MacFarlane
and 'daughter, Frances, of Toronto,
were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs.
George Allen. Mr. and Mrs, Allen
accompanied them to their home in
Toronto, where they will spend the
winter season. Mr. and Mrs. Allen's
many Wroxeter friends extend very
good wishes 'for their good health and
a very pleasant winter.
Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Vanvelsor,
Hamilton, were week-end guests of
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Vanrvelsor,
Dr. W. A. and Mrs. Spence, Toron-
to, spent the week-end with the latter's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Rann,
Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Cathers, Mr.
John Cathers, Kathleen and Bobbie,
all of Gorrie, were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. A. Moffatt.

Summers of Fonthill was re-elected
provincial ,president at a meeting of the
Federated W. I. held in the Royal
York Hotel, Toronto last week. The

recently while visiting in Toronto.

two weeks with J. H. and Mrs, Wylie.
Miss Bonny Gibson of London, also
Mr. Garfield Gibson, of Parkhill, spent
the, week-.end with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Gibson.
Mr. and Mrs. A, Meahan and Miss
Mary Meahan, spent the week-end with
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Meahan in London.
Members of the Howick Lions Club
were in Fordwich last Thursday at-
tending Ladies Night. Chicken and
Goose dinner was served by the Wo-
men's Auxiliary of Trinity Anglican
Church.
Women's Institute
Mrs. Vern Denny opened her home
on Thursday afternoon for the Decem-
ber meeting of the Women's Institute
with a good attendance of members
and visitors. "Christmas" was the
theme and the motto for the month,

Others. Mrs. Harvey Timm reviewed
the Current Events, opening with a
choice poem, "Cause its Christmas",
followed by Gueenbush W. I. adopts a

Christmas Cheer Boxes, which Mrs.
Wylie and her committee will pack. An
exhibit, Home Made Table Centre,
Mrs. R. B. Palmer and Mrs. Malcolm
MacPhail were the judges and awarded
the first prize to Mrs.. W. T. Mac-
Maclean. The winning design was a
large silver star mounted with a bright
red cutter, a snow laden Christmas
Tree and Santa Claus in the driver's
seat. The Spirit of Christmas was the
topic given by Mrs. Allen Munroe. In
speaker told the Christmas Story,
recalled many Legends, and closed
with choice verses. Christmas Carols
were conducted by Mrs. H. I. Durst,
with Miss Kay Hazelwood at the
piano. Mrs. H. Hamilton and Mrs.
D. 5, .MacNaughton sang two duets,
Holy Night, and I heard the Bells on
Christmas Eve. Several visitors sign-
ed the Memorial guest book. The
president, Mrs, H. V. McKenney pre-
sided, Mrs. W. T. Maclean presented
the minutes. The sum , of $1.00 per
member, $34.00, was .voted to the Ad-
elaide Heedless Memorial Fund also
$50,40 to Save the Children Fund. Let-
ters of appreciation were received in
response to gifts sent out by the Good
Cheer Committee. Tea was served at
the close when the hostess was assisted
by Mrs. G. Edwards, Mrs. G. A. Wear-
ring and Mrs. A. Moffat.
W.M.S. Annual Meeting
"Christmas" is the theme for the
December meeting of the W.M.S. Un-
itesl Church to be held Friday of this
week in the church parlours at '3 p.m.
Mrs. John Gowdy will be guest speak-
er. Mrs. H. Hamilton and Mrs. D, S.
MacNaughton will sing. Roll Call to
be answered by "My Favourite Christ-
mas Carol". Mrs. D. W. Rae and Mrs.
A. Moffat are in charge of the Devot-
ional Period, Mrs. A. Munroe will
preside. Election of officers for 1941
will be held. All the ladies are cord-
ially invited to the meeting of the W.
Missionary Society.
