Wingham friends. •

Master John, spent Sunday with Mrs.
Charles Carter in Wingham.
Wroxeter and Salem United ChUrch
joined services on Sunday •at 2.30 in
the afternoon at Salem Church. Rev.
Hugh Wilson of Brussels, was in'
charge. Rev, J. L. Foster of this
charge is not sufficiently recovered to
take over his work. His many friends
hope he will soon be fully restored.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey .Reidt, and
children, Mrs. John Reidt and Mr. Wes
Paulin, spent the week-end in Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham, Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Baker and sons, all of

Wroxeter Community Association
A business meeting was held on Fri-
day evening in Red Cross Rooms, by
the Wroxeter Community Association,
The president, Mr. Hector Knight was
in the chair. Secretary, Mrs. H. I,
Durst read the minutes width were ap-
proved. A letter ivas read from How-
ick Council stating immediate action
would be taken towards rejAiring the
board walk as requested. Mr. A, Mof-
fat displayed a map showing the light,.

A petition was drawn up and signed
to be presented at next council meet-
ing by Messrs. H. Knight, A. Munroe,
H. McMichael. The parks committee
reported the ploughing of the grounds
to be almost completed, A euchre and
Chicken Bingo is being arranged for
the evening of November 15th., with
Mervyn Grainger, convener of Com-
mittee in charge. Meeting adjourned.
Next meeting is called for November'
29th., at 8 pan. in Red Cross Rooms.

New Egg Grading Station Here
Mr. Cloyne Michael of. Gorrie, is
eqUipping part of the Vanvelsior block
and will shortly open an egg ,grading
station here. The front of the build-
ing has been painted in black and white
and looks quite attractive.
Masquerade Great Success
The Carnival Spirit of Hallowe'en
was abroad in the Town Hall on Tues-
day evening, when a record attendance
were present for the Masquerade
Dance put on by Wroxeter Public
School. Old and young entered into
the spirit of the occasion. Artistic
seasonable decorations and the color-
ful costumes'added to the gaiety of the
party. The earlier part of the evening
was given over to the children. There
was keen competition in all classes,
both children and grown up, Mr. R,
B. Hunter, Miss Jean Sparling and
Mrs. MacNaughton, were the judges.
A lovely wool cushion made by the
girls of the Senior room was auctioned
by David Neilson. Ken Wilbee was-
the highest bidder. The lucky door
prize, a chicken, Was won by Mr.
Cathers of Salem. Wilbee's Orchestra
supplied music for the dancing. Sand-
wiches, Coffee, Chocolate Milk and
Pumpkin Pie were to be had at the
booth.

success of the evening's entertainment.
Young People's Regional School
Completed
Rev, Mr. Miner of Fordwich and
Rev. Mr. Hewitt of Bluevale, were in
charge of the last meeting of the ser-
ies of studies held, by the members of t
the Young People's Union of this dis-
trict on Wednesday evening. Mr.
Pollock' of Fordwich, conducted the
recreational period and Wroxeter
group served refreshments, 34 were en-
rolled in the" school and 16 certificates
will be presented at regular church
services shortly,
W.M.S. Theme Remembrance
Mrs. Harold Hamilton and. Miss K.
Hazelwood will have charge of the
November meeting of. the Women's
Missionary Society to be held on Fri-
day of this week in the church parlor.
The theme of the meeting is Remem-
brance. The Roll Call to be answered
by a Remembrance verse, all the ladies
are cordially invited to the 'W,M.S,
meeting.
Local Service Cancelled
Owing to the service of Remem-
brance and unveiling of Howick Town-
ship Honour Roll to be held in Gorrie
on Sunday afternoon next, November
10th. The afternoon service announ-
ced for Wroxeter United Church will
be cancelled.
Women's Institute
The November meeting of the
Wroxeter branch of Women's Institute
will be held at the home of Mrs. Alvin
Moffat on the afternoon of November
14th., at 2.30 p,m. Mrs. Hart will give
current events. Roll Call to be ans-

Sewing Course Completed
Thirteen, Ladies of the village on
Friday, completed the 0 day sewing
course sponsored by the Women's In-
stitute, Miss Doris Burke of Hamil-
ton was the Dept, Instructor, On Fri-
day afternoon, the president of the W.
I, expressed the appreciation of all to
Miss Burke and on their behalf pres-
ented a small gift.
Friends At LYnimrst Lodge Fete
David 'Roger and Bride
The following article appeared in the
Toronto Evening Telegram recently,
and concerns Sg t. David Roger, adopt-
ed soldier of Wroxeter Women's In-
stitute. A picture of David and his
bride admiring their gifts was also
shown, First event of its kind at the
Lynhurst Lodge Convalescent centre
for paraplegics, a post nuptial shower
was held last night for one of the pat-
ients, David Roger and his recent
bride.
As Miss Hilda Mary White, she
met David Roger, when the two ap-
peared in the same church play at
Brockville. They soon had an idea they
would eventually be appearing in, the
role of "Mr. and Mrs." and Miss White
was wearing his engagement ring when
he sailed for overseas.
In the meantime he served with the
Stormont Dundas Glengarry High-
landers and was paralyzed, after being
wounded near Abbeville, 'Trance, two
years ago: Returning home and spend-
ing these many months in the hospital
and at the convalescent Lodge, he was
married quietly in St. Chads Anglican
Church, with Rev. G. H. Johnston of-
ficiating. Mrs. Rogers is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. John White, Kin-
cott, and her husband is the son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Rog-
er, Mr. White gave his daughter in
marriage, and she was attended by
Mrs. David Draper. Mr. Draper was
best man. Following there was a re-
ception at the home of Mr, and Mrs.
Wm. Smeaton.
Several groups from the Salvation
Army and St. Chad's Church, who re-
gularly visit the Wells Hill Deer
Ildge were represented at a friendly
gathering when the bridal couple were
showered with gifts. Mrs. L. .M At-
kinson, organized the party and Mrs.
D, Murray of the Salvation Army,
sang,

At Wingham General Hospital, on
Wednesday, - October 30th., following
a lingering illness, there entered into
rest a well known and highly esteemed
citienz in the person. of the late Hugh
Harris,
A 50n 'of the pioneeers, the late Wm
and Mary Harris of the 4th line of
Turnberry, Mr, Harris was in his 76
year. In 1896 he went to Westert
Canada where he farmed successfully
and though he made many trips back
home, he continued to reside in the
West until owing to ill health he re-
tired two years ago ago, coming east
to live with his brother, John, and sis-
ter, Mrs. A. (Mary) McMichael, who
with a brother, George, in the West
survive. Shortly after coming east,
Mr. Harris suffered a paralytic stroke,
from which he never fully recovered.
For the past sixteen months he has
been a patient in Wingham General
Hospital, until death relieved him -of
his suffering.
Funeral services were held from the
residence of his sister, Mrs. Archie

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dance enjoyed
few days vacation at Windsor, De:-
troit and Toledo, Ohio, while in De-
troit they were the guests of Mr. and
Airs. George Sproule. Mr. Sproule
was a former resident of Wroxeter.
Mr. Charles Maxwell spent a few
'days last week with his sons, Clifford
and. Earl of Simcoe,
Miss Hazel MacDonald, formerly in
the services W.D., is spending several
weeks with her grandfather, Mi.-Chas.
Maxwell and other friends, in the vil-
lage. Miss MacDonald is recuperating
from an attack of Rheumatic Fever,
end was for some months a patient at
Christie Street 'Hospital. Of interest
to her friends is the fact Miss Mac-
Donald, while a patient there won the
'beauty contest at a monster picnic
given for the patients in the month of
August.
