the Women's Institute is attending the
Area Convention of the Institute being
held in London this week, She will
give her report at the November meet-
ing of the local Institute being held
at Mrs. R. J. Woods, on Friday, Nov-
ember 15th. Please note the change
of date.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Thorn and Mr.
and Mrs. W. A, Miller were recent
guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Sillers
at Walkerton.
A very successful Hallowe'en party
was held in the Community Hall under
the auspices of the Women's lnstitete,
on Friday night. The judges, Mrs,
George Stuart, Mrs. Mel, Morrison,
Mr, Mac McGregor of Whitechurch,
and • Mr, Tom Jamieson awarded the
following prizes: Fancy dressed gent,
Mr. Sam McOuillin; comic gent, Gor-
don McPherson; Comic lady, Mrs.
Jim Reid, fancy dressed girl, Betty
McDonald, fancy dressed boy, Isobel
McPherson, comic dressed girl, Coleen
Tiffin, comic boy, Donald Taylor.
After lunch, Mr, W. A. Miller invited
Mr. and Mrs. Chester • Taylor' Miss
Doris Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. George
Stuart and Mr, G. A. Webb to the
platform. On behalf of the Women's
Institute he expressed thanks to them
for their services at the dances during
the war years. As a tangible expres-
sion of appreciation each was present-
ed with a gift. After each had ex-
pressed his thanks, all joined in sing-
ing "For they are jolly good fellows."
Music for dancing was provided by
Mr, and Mrs. Athol Bruce and son.
Proceeds amounted to nearly $85:00.

was the guest speaker at the annual

held on Sunday morning, Miss Doug-
las, a former principal of the St. Hel-
en's school, delighted her listeners With
her address on her work as a mission-
ary in British Guiana, where she has
spent the past three and a half years,

This community was sorry to hea
of the passing of Mrs, Sam Coulter o
East. Wawanosh, formerly Bessie Jan
Laidlaw, eldest daughter of the lat
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Laidlaw. Sh
married Mr. Sam Coulter over thirt
years ago, and spent her married lif
on the farm at Zetland, She was of
quiet and retiring disposition, and re
spected by all her many friends. Besid
es her husband, she leaves to mourn
her, three brothers, James and Herb-
ert of W. Wawanosh, and Robert of
Preston, and three sisters, Misses Ah-
nie and Mary, and Mrs, James Fal-
coner, (Maggie), all of East Waw--
nosh. , The funeral was on Tuesday to
Wingham cemetery with Rev: A. H,
Wilson of Glamis, a former pastor,
of the Whitechurch Presbyterian
Church, in charge of the services.
Their many friends in this community
extend sympathy to Mr. Coulter and
other members of her family.
Mr. John McDowell of Westfield
bought the barn on Mr, J. B. Morri-
son's•property and has been busy dur-
ing the past week taking it down.
Mrs. J. B. Morrison is again able to
walk around'and visit with her friends,
after being laid aside for a long time
with a broken leg,-
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ragsdale, who
had been in California, returned home
on Thursday and purpose making
their home in London. Mr. and Mr.s,
Fred Clarke of London, were also vis-
iting last Sunday with her father, Mr.
Robt. Carrick, over the week-end and
Mr. and Mrs.. Ragsdale left for Lon-
don with them.
Miss Isabel Fox, R. N., returned to
her position in Kincardine Hospital,
on Friday, after taking a month's vac-
ation,
Mrs. J. D. Beecroft spent the week-
end in Toronto, with her daughter,
Miss Florence Beecroft.
The Hallowe'en Social in White-
church United Church on Wednesday
evening last was much enjoyed by the
good crowd who attended. The judg-
es for the fancy costumes were Mrs.
Newton, Mrs. Fox, and Mrs. V. Em-
erson, The prize for the best dressed
couple went to Mrs. T. H. Moore and
Mrs. Milian Moore. For the best
dressed lady, Mr. Charlie Moore, the
best dressed man, Mrs. E. H. Gros-
korth, and the best dressed-up child,
Raymond Adams, Miss Mildred Moore
was in charge of the recreational per-
iod and ReV. G. M. Newton in charge
of the Devotional period. Lunch of
sandwiches and pumpkin pie was ser-
ved.
