The Howick Pall Fair at Fordwieh
on Saturday had fine weather, and the
gate receipts were larger than last .
year, Attendance at the evening en-
tertainment by CKNX talent was also

Rev. Wallace Murray of London,
will be guest speaker at the Presby-
terian Anniversary services next Sun-
day morning at eleven and in the even-
at seve-thirty. Special music by the
choir.
The condition of Mr. Alex Edgar,
who has been a patient in Listowel
Hospital for the past five weeks re-
mains about the same,

questing the use of the town hall audi-
torium for the Literary Society meet-
ings. This was granted.
J. H. Crawford, regarding an acci-
dent that occurred on Minnie street
sidewalk. This was referred to the In-
surance adjustor,
E. Wilkinson, regarding' the third
coat that was necessary in painting the
town hall.
Dept. of Highways regarding the
planking on the McKenzie bridge, sta-
ting that the Dept. had not assumed
any of the highway in the corporation,
and that it was still the responsibility
of the County.
The following applications were re-I
ceived for building permits:
Ross Scott, to erect a service sta-
tion at the corner of .Patrick and Jo-
sephine Streets.
R. H. Saint, to erect a small metal
building On Edward St.
Chas. Crossett, to erect a service sta-
tion on the East side of Josephine St.
Beyond the C,N.R.
A. H, Edgar to erect a garage.
Miss M, Barber to erect a garage.
The permits as presented were all
granted,
The Finance Committee presented a
number of accounts properly certified,
and theSe.were, ordered paid.
Reeve 'George Feagon of Ashfield,
was present asking- for a grant to the
Huron Plowmen's Association for the
-International Plowing Match. The
council decided to make a grant of
$200.00.
Mayor Davidson reported for the
Executive committee about installing
a light at the east end of John street
and east end of Charles street. 'these
wek ordered to be installed.
Coml. Reavie for the Street commit-
tee reported that all work was at a
standstill owing to the shortage of ce-
rnent.
The council, discussed the purchase
of ,equipment for. the Firemen's room.
McKibbon was ordered to se-
cure 2 table and 14 chairs.
Conn. Kennedy reporting. for the
Cemetery committee said that the fence
had been painted and considerable of
the ground levelled, and that as soon
as a loader is secured ,dirt will be av-
ailable for dressing.
A by-law re the change in the As-
sessment Act was read.

by-law setting 10 o'clock as the closing
hour on Saturday nights. The council
were of the opinion that as long as it
remains in effect, it should be enforc-
ed.
It was decided to have a by-law
prepared designating Minnie ,street as
a through street.
A ample of tenders were received
for the plowing of the streets this win-
ter, the council believed they should
have asked for tenders allowing the
town equipment to be used, so decided
to call for new tenders.
