Formosa Soldier Received Decoration
Last week a' list of 455 Canadian
soldiers, 29 from Western Ontario,
were named as having received recog-
nition from the Netherlands Govern-
fent for the' part the Canadians took
in liberation of Holland. Sgt. Lloyd
John Ernewin of Formosa, was award-;
ed the Bronze Lion of the Order. of
Orange Nassau.

Missionary Group Eelected Officers
The December meeting of the W.M.
S. of the United Church was held 'this
week at the home of Mrs; Arthur Shaw
The president, Mrs. Alex. MeCrackin,
presided for the business session and
grs. George Hetherington conducted
'the worship service as outlined in the
Missionary Monthly. The, poem "Can-
41,19 Light Burning Bright3' was read' by
W. J. Johnston. Eight candles
were lighted by Mrs. Arthur Shaw,
the only charter member present, an-,
other charter member, Mrs, Rolph, was
unable to be at the meeting on account
of her poor. health. The Christmas les-
son as recorded in St. Luke was read
by 'Mrs. Curtis, and the roll call was
answered by a verse pertaining 'to
Christmas. The responsive service was
read 'by Mrs. Robt. ShaVe. during which
solos in keeping were snrig by Mrs.
Ed. Johnston, Mrs: Hetherington and
Mrs. McCrackin. PraYer of ThankS-
giving for Peace was offered by Mrs.
George Thornton.

Church was occupied on Sunday morn-
ing by Rev, Fred Williamson of Lon.,
den, -He based his Christmas message
on the text St, John 8:16, "ad 59

were sung. A trio "Silent Night", was
sung by Marga'ret Messer, Shirley
Deitmap and Ileane McKinney. Mr.

Christmas service was observed in
Knox United Church. At the morning
service the, choir rendered two anth-
eriis and a, quartet number. Mrs. 1Geo.

G. H. Dunlop preaching. Mrs. R.
Chainney lighted a row of candles wide

twin daughters of Rev, and Mrs. M. G.
Newton of St. Helens, attended the
special Christmas service held in the
United Church here on Sunday. Mrs.
Newton spent a few days last week in
Wingham Hospital as a patient.
Miss Winnifred Farrier, Toronto, is
spendin er holidays with her parent's,
Mr.:Mrs . W. R. Farrier.
Rev. G. A, Wilson was in charge of
a concert in the astitute Hall here,
last Friday evening, at a reception for
four of the returned boys, Nat Thom-
son; Elroy Laidlaw, John Walters and
Hector Purdon, • After a short pro-
gram, Mr.. Wilson called them to the
front and presented each with a bill-
fold, a gift from the tommunity, and
each was asked to give a short talk,
-and eaeh thanked the Institute and the
people of the community for remem-
brances sent them when they were
overseas.
Mr, and. Mrs. Lorne Johnston spent
Christmas at the home of her sister,
Mrs. Plaetzer of Auburn, and with
Goderich relatives.
Wren Frances Robinson, stationed
at Ottawa, spent Wednesday last with
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Beecroft.
Quiet a crowd •attended the Christ-
mas concert in the United Church on
Thursday evening, held 'by the Sun-
day Schools of the •Presbyterian and
United Church. A splendid program
was presented, with Rev. G. A. Wilson
in charge. Rev. Mr. Newton was in
charge of the pictures, and the carol
singing, in connection with the picture
story of the life of Christ, During the
evening, Mr. Newton also showed pic-
tures on the screen of the school pupils
and teachers in the schools in the cein-
munity, and some recent wedding
groups, alt of which proved very in-
teresting. After Santa Claus came and
gave out the gifts, all enjoyed the lunch
arid social time in the S. S. room.
Miss Thelma Caldwell, of S. S, No.
14, W. Wawanosh, held a concert in
