A splendid Christmas concert was staged by the pupils of St. Helens' School under the direction of the teach- ers, Mr. Jas. Coulter and Miss Beat- rice McQuillia in the hall on Friday evening. Rev. M. G. Newton was the capable chairman for the program of choruses, dialogues, drills, etc. At the conclusion Santa Claus appeared and distributed gifts from the Christmas tree, A special Christmas service of music and pictures will be presented is the United Church next Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. Arnold David. gawps Allegedly Murdered By the Germans Defence Ueadquarters announced the names of 114 Canadian soldiers, who were allegedly murdered by the Germans while prisoners of war at the time of the invasion of Normandy, in June, 1944, Maj.-Gen. Hurt Meyer, commander of the 12th German S. S. Division is now facing a military court at Auriph, Germany, in connection with these atrocities. Included in those named was Tpr. Arnold David Bowes of Blyth, a member of the 6th Canad- ian` Armoured Regiment, Tpr. Arnold David Bowes was the son of Mrs. Rusgell Wilson, Blyth and of the late David Bowes. His mother, his -brother Irvine Bowes and his half- sister, Olive Wilson, now live in Blyth his sister, Reta, Mrs, John Blake, is on the home farm near the village, Before the war Arnold Bowes lived and work- ed on the Wilson farm. Owing to the stolen of Saturday night and Sunday there was no church service at Wetsfield on Sunday as the roads were blocked. The ladies of the Red Cross met on Wed. a.m. and completed two quilts. The Red Cross convener, Mrs. Wm. made 34 quilts this year. The receipts from teas and donations were $,30.21. expenses includings, linings for quilts thread, yarn, needles, blankets, were $27.86, leaving a balance of $2.95, which was donated to the Christmas Cheer Fund. The sewing completed this year was 20 pantie dresses, 8 baby nighties, 12 pair shorts for boys, 12 pair pyjamas, .8 ladies nighties, 12 pain-socks. The Christmas meeting of the W. M. S. was held on Wednesday after- noon, with 11 present. The meeting was in charge of the president, Mrs. W. McVittie., The Worship service opened with the singing of Christmas Carols. Prayer by Mrs. McVittie; Scripture lesson from St. Luke 2: 1-20, was read by Mrs. Norman McDowell. Readings were given by Mrs. R. Buch- anan, Mrs. Wm. Vittie, Mrs. Win. Car- 1 ter. Police quickly swung into an investigation of her death, which they said was under "highly suspicious circumstances", Police found blood,stains and broken china in the kitchen of the McDougall home, The woman appeared to have been dead for several hours. A snowstorm during the week-end partly buried the body and covered all tracks in the area.
