1UNE 4th is. Election Day for the members of our armed forces overseas
J from Ontario, as it is here at home. The arrangements which have been
made provide ample time for the overseas vote to be taken, Special
Returning Officers are already overseas.
Something more, however, must be done if our voters overseas are to know
why an Ontario election was forced upon us at this time.
I appeal to each one of you who read this message to write NOW by airmail.
Give our men and women overseas all the information you can and be sure
to tell them the correct name of the Provincial Riding in which they are
entitled to vote, and the name of the candidate. This is of the utmost import-
ance because so many of them have never voted before and -the difference
between the names and boundaries of Provincial and Dominion Ridings
make it doubly necessary that you be sure to give them the exact name of
the Riding in which they are entitled to cast their ballot on June 4th.
If you are in doubt as to any details please call the Progressive Conservative
Office in your locality and get the necessary information without delay:

TAKE NOTICE that the sittings of the Revising Officers for the purpose of hearing complaints or appeals
with regard to the Voters' Lists to be used at the pending Election of a member of the Legislative Assembly for
each of -the Electoral Districts of Huron-Bruce, and Huron, will be' held for the respective municipalities in said
Districts, at the following times and places, mentioned in the schedule below, with the names of the Clerk of the
Revising Officer for Each Municipality, and the last date for making complaints or appeals to the said Clerk.
Mrs. 0. S. MacNaughton, attended the
executive meeting of East Huron W, I.
held at Bluevale on Tuesday of last
week.
John Howes of Belleville, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr, and
Mrs. Gilbert Howes.
Mts. Melvin Sanbarn- of the 4th line
of Turnberry, is very ill, a patient in
Wingham General Hospital. Neigh-
bors and friends hope for improve-
ment very soon.
Mr. C. Laurence, who has conducted
a repair shop here for some time, .has
purchased • the Sharpin house and
later will take up residence here. Mr.
and Mrs. Laurence live in Gorrie at
present.
One of the most successful dances
was held here on 'Thursday night
under • the auspices of the Howick
Legion. , Willoughby's orchestra pro-
vided good music.

Easter Thank-offering Meeting
The Women's Missionary Society, of
United Church, held their Easter
Thank-offering meeting in the church
school room on the afternoon of April
27, 1945. Members of the Women's
Association and of the Women's
Guild of St. James Church, met with
the W. M. S. membeq,
The president, Mrs. Allen Munroe,
was in charge. Miss K, Hazelwood,
who was pianist, opened with quiet
music, then followed invocation and re-
peating of the Lord's prayer. The
opening hymn chosen was "In Christ
there is, no East or West". Mrs.
Scherk led in prayer. Mrs, V. Denny
led the Easter Story. Mrs. C. Mc-
Cutcheon and Mrs. D. S. MacNaugh-
ton contributed a duet "Seeking the
Master". Mrs. G. Howes gave a read-
ing including some choice verses. The
second hymn was 'Jesus Shall Reign".
The guest speaker was Mrs. Alice
Aitken of Bluevale, who spoke on the
Bible, tracing its history from the be-
ginning to the present clay. The
speaker said we are urged in these
T. days to think internationally, and, that
the Women's Missionary Society are
thinking and working internationally
in this we can all have a part by our
prayers, our givings, and by sending
missionaries to spread the gospel.
Mrs. Munro expressed the thanks of
all to Mrs. Aitken for her interesting
and informative address. Miss Helen
Sa.wtell and Miss ,Gilberta Howes
sang "In the Garden", The closing
hymn "0 .Master of the Waking
World" and the Mizpah Benediction
closed the meeting,. At the close tea
was served with Mrs, Foster and Mrs,
A. J. Sanderson presiding over the tea ,
table which was centred by a bowl of
Narcissus with matching candles in,
silver holders,

Mrs. Ben Wade was guest of honour
at a .delightful party on Wednesday
evening last when members of the
Women's Association, United Church,
met in the church school room with
22 present, The president, Mrs. C.
McCutcheon, presided over a short
program which opened with the sing-
ing of "Blest be the tic that binds".
and prayer by Rev. I. L. Foster. Mrs,
Moffat favored with a reading. Mr.
Foster sang a solo "Only Shadows",
She powders her nose, was the title
of a reading given by Mrs. Wm. Hart.
Contests and games followed with
Mrs.McCutcheon, Mrs. Jas, Douglas
and Mrs. Newton as prize winners.
At this point, Mrs. Wade who is
soon leaving to take up residence with
her daughter in Goderich, was called
forward and presented with a bed
lamp and a pair of pictures. Mrs. L.
Douglas reading the address as
Dear Mrs. Wade:-
We, as members 'of the Women's
Association have gathered here this
evening to spend a social hour with
you before your departure to your new
home.
During the time you have lived in
our community, we have found you
to be a valued member of our organ-
izations,, always fulfilling any duty
which you were assigned. Not always
did you find this easy to do. You
have shared our joys along with our
sorrows. Your cheery happy smile
will be missed, but what is our loss
will be others gain.
Now we ask you to accept this gift
as a small remembrance, hoping it
will bring back happy memories of
your days here among us.

few months with her husband's par-
ents, Capt. J. and Mrs. Barlow of
New York.
\Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McMichael,
spent the week-end with their daugh-
ter at Port Burwell,
Mrs. Elliott of Burlington, is visiting
with her sister, Mrs. J. MacLeod.
Mrs. MacLeod , suffered injuries in a
fall at her home three weeks ago. We
are pleased to know she is feeling
much better.
Mrs. ,Moffat was in Gorrie over the
week-end with her mother, Mrs. 'Cath-
ers, who is, very ill at her home in
Gorrie.
Miss Elizabeth Hare of Wingham,
was a week-end guest of her friend,
Miss Frances Wylie,
Friends here and especially mem-
bers of St. James Church, where Rev.
R. S. Jones was rector for fifteen years
were pleased to hear over the radio of
the decoration awarded Dick, the only
son of Rev. R. S. and Mrs. Jones, now
of Durham. Dick, ,a member of the
R.C.A.F., .returned to Canada some
time ago, and later his bride joined
him here. Friends from this parish
and community extend congratula-
tions.
Mr. Wm. Mines is spending a few
clays in Toronto.
Frolic Date Is Set
August 10th was the date set for
the annual frolic to be held this year
in Gorrie. when Howick Lions met
for their business meeting in the Red
Cross rooms Friday evening. Prizes
to the amount of $250.00 will be offer-
ed, 'First prize, $100.00 in cash. At
this meeting which was well attended,
plans were made for a number of
members and ladies to attend the
Charter meeting at Blyth on May 4th,
also a group of members will attend
a special anniversary meeting on May
7th at Palmerston. ' A nominating
committee was appointed. Election of
officers to take place at June meeting.
Women's Institute
The May meeting of the W. I. will
be held'on Thursday,. May 3rd, 3 p.m.,
at the home of Mrs, H. V. McKenney.
Mrs. H. I, Durst will have charge of
Current Events. Roll Call to be ans-
wered by a Thought or Proverb on
Music. Rev. G. K. Nobes of Gorrie,
will be guest speaker and his subject
"Music". Reports of the years work
will be given by Mrs. W. T. Maclean.
Junior Red Cross Active
Our Junior Red Cross group, though
not as often in the news as the Senior
group, are quietly working and tinder
the direction of our public school
teachers are doing their bit for the
war effort, This week they are plan-
ning special activity and a full even-
ings entertainment when. on Friday,
May 4th they present a variety ton-
cert; including the Rhythm Band.
Bingo will follow the program, many
of the prizes being made by the man-
ual training class and other pupils as
well as those donated by interested
citizens, They also plan a refresh-
ment booth and to complete the even-
ing dancing with Willoughby's orch-
estra in attendanee.. The draw for the
'Occasional chair on which the children
have sold tickets, will be made. • It is
hoped citizens of Wroxeter and torn-
infinity will lend their support to the
Junior Red Cross in their war effort.
