Mother's Day Service Held
Mother's Day Service was observed
at the United Church. The superin-
tendent, W. J. Johnston, presided.
Mrs. Wilson Thornton told of Madame
Soong, mother of Madame Chiang Kai
Shek and Rev. C. Tavener spoke on
"The Influence of Mothers," A choir
composed of mothers sang "Mother 0
IVIine" and "Mother's Prayer." During
the service five babies Were baptized:
Douglas Earl ,son of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Hamilton; Shirley Ann Helen,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spar/ing
Johnston; Raymond Keith, son of Mr,
and Mrs. John Nicholson; Robert
Bruce, •son of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart
McLennan, and Mary Ruth, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Fischer. The
church was beautiful with flowers for
the service, WO. Russel Barnard
,cabled flowers to his mother and there
were flowers in memory of the late
Lance Corporal J. L. Nicholson.

Miss Lizzie Anderson of Montreal,
has been visiting with her sister, Mrs.
Robt. Purdon and with her parents,
Mr, and Mrs. Archie Anderson of
Lucknow-, On Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
Purdon, Archie and Marjorie, of Han-
over, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rin-
toul and family, and Mr. and"Mrs. Jas.
Curran and son, Richard of St. Helens,
gathered in Lucknow with other mem-
bers of the family to have a re-union.
Miss Anderson returns to Montreal on
Wednesday after visiting with an aunt,
at Guelph for a day.
A reception -was held on Friday
evening at Langside Hall for Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Tiffin, when they were pre-
sented with many gifts and a purse of
money. The Conn-Waddel orchestra
furnished music for the dancing.

Mrs, Edward Johnston was hostess
on Tuesday afternoon last week, for
the monthly meeting of the Women's
Institute, ,,The president, Miss Jean
Elliott, presided. The roll call was
answered with "A story of my garden",
Mrs. Edward Johnston gave a report
of the district executive meeting and
was followed by discussion and prep-
aration for the district annual meeting
to be held in Knox Presbyterian
Church on Thursday, June 8th, Mrs.
Jack Wickstead was appointed con-
vener of the reception committee. Mrs.
George Thomson will convene over the
refreshments and Mrs. M. L. Aitken
will have charge of, the decorations.
Mrs. Aitken gave a paper on "Agri-
culture" and conducted a questionnaire
on agriculture and farm .problems.
