Mrs. Shera then spoke on "The
Churches in Captivity" and papers
were read on the lives of people in
Holland, Germany and Norway where
they are not -free to worship as we
are and how their everyday lives have
been changed since they are ruled by
Germany,
A hymn was sung after which Mrs,
Whitfield introduced the guest speak-
er, Mrs. Gowdy from Salem, who gave
a very interesting, talk on. "Influence",
pointing out how one's life may be in-
flueneed by the talk and living, of
others taking as an example, the life
of Madame Chiang Kia-Shek of China.
The president thanked the speaker
and Mrs, Copeland closed' the meeting
with prayer, Lunch was served by
members of, group 1,

er spoke on "Reverence", from the
,sentence in The Lord's Prayer, "Hat-
lowed he Thy Name". Misses. Jean
Elliott and Ruth Lucas sang a duet.
The Sunday. School is holding the
anntial picnic, along with the Sunday
School from Eadies Church on Thurs-
day afternoon at the, Palace Gardens,.

hospital where she underwent a serious
operation, and is making a fine re-
covery.

her mother who is improving nicely.

ices will be withdrawn for the month

Mary Isabel Watson, younger
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Watson of Gorrie, passed away in
Hamilton General Hospital on Tues-
day, July 20, following a brief illness,
She is survived by her parents, one
sister, Mrs. Robt. Hayes of Gorrie and
six brothers, Lyle and Harold of Gor-
rie, Harry of Listowel, James and
Keith of Fergus and Pte, Kenneth H.,
overseas. Funeral was conducted by
Rev. R, C. Copeland in Connie 'United
Church on Friday, July 23rd. Inter-
ment in Gorrie Cemetery.

Reta, Toronto, spent a few days with
Me. and Mrs., Joseph Greenaway and
Traffic Officer On The Job
A traffic officer paid an official
visit to the village on Saturday even-
ing and ,did some checking up on the
non-observance of traffic laws. The
intersection of highways 86 and 87 in
the village is a busy corner on a Sat-
urday evening and many motorists
fail to observe the traffic signs.
Bazaar Was Success
The Bazaar, held in the Sunday
School room of the Presbyterian.
Church under the auspices of the Blue
Banner Mission Band, on Saturday
afternoon, was very successful affair.
Margaret Messer, Ruth McKercher
and Frances Shaw had charge of the
fancy work booth, which realized:
$29.75. A white elephant booth was
managed by Floyde Moffatt and Ken-
neth McAllister, the receipts amounted
to $2.45. Eileen McKinney, Helen
Breckenridge and Nora Shaw couldn't
supply the 'demand at the Home Bak-
ing counter, the proceeds amounted to
$8.28. Afternoon tea was served. The
total proceeds amounted to nearly
$45.00.
