Burke Thursday morning, was a great
shock to his friends and relatives. His
death took place at Kincardine at the
home of his brother-in-law. He was
in his 54th year. A native of Aslifield
township, he was married at Wingliam
in 1921 to Ellenor Cooke. They
farmed in Grey at first then moved to
the 2nd of Morris where they resided
until they moved into Wingham about
a yaar and a half ago.
Surviving are his wife, two sons and
a daughter, Calvin, with the R.C.A.F.,
et* Surnmerside, P,E.I.; Frank and
June at home. He is also survived by
two brothers and two sisters, Sam of
London; John, Webster, N.Y.; Mrs.
N. K. McLeod of Kincardine; Mrs,
Ernest Platt, Port Colborne.
HOMUTH, MARY - On Friday,
June 11th, 1943, at the home of her
daughter, Mrs, Russell Marshall,
125 Lawton Blvd., Toronto, Mary,
beloved wife of the late J. J. Hom-
uth, in her 95th year, and dear
mother of Mrs. Edgar Bowles, Mrs.
Russell Marshall, Toronto and Mrs.
A. K. Gifford, Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
and the late Will and Milt, Funeral
service from the above address on
Monday, June 14th. Interment in

United Church manse, Bluevale, when
Mary Beth, youngest daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Alex McCrackin, Bluevale,
became the bride of Me. Clarence C.
Gall, youngest son of Mr. and' Mrs.
Conrad pal, 1st concession Morris
township, 'Rev, . Campbell Tavener
officiated. The bride wore a dress
of poudre blue crepe with matching
accessories and' carried a bouquet of
spired and fern, There were no At-
tendants, After a short motor trip,
Mr. and Mrs, Goll will reside in Blue-
vale.
Taube - Buchanan
A wedding of local interest took
place in London at 3 o'clock Saturday
afternoon, June 19th, when Dorothy
June Buchanan formerly of Wingham
and recently on the staff of the
Orangeville High School, daughter of
the late Mr, and Mrs. W. P. Buchanan
and granddaughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs, Amos Tipling, of Wingham, was
united in marriage with Dr. Edward
Taube, on the faculty of University of
Western Ontario, son of Mr. and Mrs-
S. Taube, Oakshela, Sask., Rev. M.
A. Garland officiated, The bride wore
a rose beige crepe suit with a corsage
of Sunset roses., Her bridesmaid was.
Miss Marion Mitchell of Toronto, who.
wore a blue-gray crepe dress with a
corsage of Sweetheart Roses. Dr.
Henry Taube, of Cornell University
faculty, ,Ithaca, New York, was his
brother's groomsman. Mrs, W. A.
Galbraith of Wingham, cousin of the
bride, played quietly during the sign-
ing of the register. e
Immediately following the ceremony
the wedding party and a few friends:
enjoyed a buffet luncheon. Guests-
were present from Ithaca, N. Y., To-
ronto, Wingham. Dr. and Mrs. Taube
will reside at 379 Dufferin Avenue,
London.

been employed at Galt, has joined the

Miss Marian MacDonald who has
been on the bank staff here, has taken
a position in Toronto.
Miss Jean McDonald of Toronto,
was a week-end guest at her home

Rev. J. L. and Mrs. Foster visited
their sons in Leamington and Windsor
last week.
Members of Forest Lodge A.F. &
A.M. attended Divine Service at Gor-
rie Presbyterian Church on Sunday
afternoon. Mr. McCarrol was in
charge.
Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton visited
with Owen Sound friends on Thurs-
day of last week.
Mr. and. Mrs. Cliff Denny are spend-
ing a few days in Toronto.
Friends of Miss Mary and Miss
Cassie Harris, were grieved to know
they received word that their nephew
of the R,C.A.F. was missing overseas.
A brother lost his life some months
ago, both sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Harris of Saskatchewan. We hope
their anxiety will be relieved by good
word soon.
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Denny and
Thelma were Sunday guests of Mr.
and Mrs. N. A. Edgar, Fordwich.
Father's Day Service
Morning service at United Church
was of special interest when Father's
Day was observed and the singing was
led by a male choir of about 20. An
artistic arrangement of early summer
flowers made a lovely setting. The
pastor, Rev. J. L. Foster was in
charge and took as his subject "The
Endurances of the Master," Two an-
thems were given by the choir, "The
Thorn Crowned Brow" and "Thy God
is Near."
Women's Association
The W. A. held their June meeting
on Tuesday last in the church school
room. The afternoon was spent quilt-
ing with Mrs. W. T. Maclean and
Miss M, Jardine in charge. Pot luck
supper was served at the close.
Red Cross Shipment
The following list of articles were
shipped to headquarters from the local
Red Cross Branch last. week: 11
quilts; 15 suits pyjamas for boys 14
yrs.; 2 suits pyjamas for boys 4 yrs.;
2 pinafore dresses; 1 grey turtle-neck
sweater; 4 pairs long seamens socks;
2 pairs 13" socks; 2 pair's utility, socks;
4 pairs boys khaki stockings; 17 pairs
mitts.
During the month of July the local
Red. Cross rooms will be closed. The
work committee ask that the members
wilt come and take out yarn and
materials for sewing before the first
of July,
Successful Dance
The largest crowd of the season
were on hand for the dance at Doug-
las' School, Turnberry S. S. No. 1, on
Friday night, when music was pro-
vided by jack Thynne and his orches-
tra. Proceeds along with those of a -
previoes dance were presented to Mr.
and. Mrs. Bob Douglas who recently
lost their barn by fire, Mr, and Mrs.
Douglas are deeply grateful for this
generous gift and also for assistance
given by neighbours and friends the
day of the fire. Refreshments were
served by the committee in charge and
the evening was enjoyed by everyone
present,
Wroxeter North Group
There were 12 in attendance at the
meeting of the North Wroxeter group
of Red Cross workers, The meeting
was held in the class rooms and a quilt
yas patched. Plans were made for a
dance to be held in Lane's school on
Friday evening of this week, lime 25,
with Tiffin's orchestra supplying the
music, A draw will be made on the
Kenwood blanket on which tickets are
being sold. Lunch to be served by
the ladies of the teetieti, At the dose
of, the meeting tea WAS- served by Mrs,
Melville Willits and Mra. Wm. noit
and a social hour enjoyed.

BLUEVALE
Large congregations gathered at
Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday
for the anniversary services. Rey,
Hugh Jack B.A., of First Presbyters
ian Church, Seaforth, was the guest
speaker. At the morning service he
took his text from Titus 2:a1-"For
the grace of God that bringeth sal-
vation has appeared to all men." In
the evening his subject was "The
Problem of Temptation" from the 10th
chapter of 1 Cor, verses 12 and 13 -
"wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall, there
hath no temptation taken you but such
as is common to man, Rev, Campbell
Tavener, minister of the United
Church, was present at the 'evening
service and offered prayer. The choir,
under the leadership of Mrs. Donald
Robertson, rendered special music and
was assisted by Mrs. Swanson and
Miss Hutcheson of Wingham, and
Mrs. Charles McCutcheon of Wrox-
eter. The floral decorations added to
the significance of the services.
Took Offering For Chinese Fund
The morning service in the United
Church was conducted by the minister,
Rev. C. Tavener. He spoke on the
subject "Seeking the Springs" from
the test Geneses 26:18 - "Isaac dig-
ged again the wells of water." A
special offering for the Chinese Fund
was taken at the service amounting to
thirty dollars,
Ladies' Aid Group Held Quilting
The Morris group of the Ladies'
Aid Society of Knox Presbyterian
Church held their regular monthly
meeting on Wednesday afternoon,
June 16th at the home of Mrs. Frank
Shaw with a good attendance, The
president, Mrs. Roy Turvey presided
for the business part of the Meeting
and several items of business were dis-
cussed. Quilting was done during the
afternoon for the Jamestown War
Workers, Mrs. Watson Sholdice,
Mrs, Alex Shaw and Mrs,. R. J. Mc-
Murray, were added to the member-
ship roll. Plans were made for the
July meeting to be held at the home
of Mrs. R. J. McMurray after which
the hostess assisted by Mrs. Alex
Shaw, served a lovely tea,
Mrs. Archie Messer and Mrs. P. S.

Mrs. Duncan McDonald of Port El-

Cemetery Committee Named
The public meeting in the interest
of the Pluevale cemetery was held in
the Orange Hall on Monday evening.
Cecil' Wheeler, reeve of Morris town-
ship was elected chairman and Robt,
Crttikshanks atted as secretary.

Charles Johnston, James Ereeketiridge
and Mt Peacock, was named a
cemetery committee. It was suggested
that yearly grants would be given from

with a broken ankle; Mrs. George
Inglis in Toronto; Miss King, teacher,
with the mumps; Audrey Hunkin,
measles; Mrs, Mulvey, lying at her
home, having suffered a stroke. A
strange coincidence, her sister having
taken one at the same time.
The community hall was packed on
Friday evening, not leaving breathing
space, for the Red Cross concert put
on by schools No, 9, (Inglis)-; 8 and
15, (Carrick); and 1, 2, 3, 4 (Howiek).

Mr, Fred Taylor of Gorrie, visited
for a few days with Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. Addison Fraser while drawing
logs to the saw mill, was hurt and
badly bruised last week, when his
horses ran away when a thunder bolt
frightened them.
Mr. Earl Mathers visited for a few
days with his uncles and aunts and
causine and his brother-in-law and
sister-in-law on the 1st and 2nd lines
and in Bluevale.
Mr. and Mrs. Melville Mathers and
family visited on Sunday afternoon,
with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Thornton and
Wilson.

The Annual school picnic of the
boundary school and S. S, No. 4 crey,
are holding the picnic an Saturday
afternoon, June 26, at the, usual place.
Everybody welcome. Ladies bring
lunch.
There was a very good attendance
at the bazaar and bingo, at'S. S. No.
4 Grey, last Friday night, which was
put on by Miss Beattie and her pupils.
There had also been tickets sold an
a quilt. The proceeds of the basarr,
bingo, and quilt amounted to $43.35.
Much credit is due to Miss Beattie,
and the children for the fine display
of work. At the close of the evening
lunch was served by the ladies of the
section,
