THEY TAKE THE CHANCES
When the laps aticeeeded in sinking
• the "Primo:- of Wales".. of the coast of
Malaya we were told that the Japs
tared not for their lives that they were
suicide^ men, It. was said they flew
olit at this great battleship to make
re they would register hits. Many
could not rise anti plunged into the
sea and others met death front the
flaahies guns. Our fliers have proved
that they have that grim determin-
ation to carry out the most hazard
of tasks, When they were hopelessly
timbered during the air blitz on
Won, they would fight to the last
drop of petrol, refuel and rise once
again to take on that endless stream
of German planes, Churchill said,
"never in the field of human conflict
have so many owed so much to
few". In the campaign that just cloa-
ed in Tunisia our gallant soldiers in'
all branches, army, navy and airforce
combined in a task, in which they had
•the support of the gallant Americans,
that showed the stuff of which they
are made, The Eighth Army swept
across North Africa and the stiffer the
resistance the greater their triumphs
were, Finally combined with Ameri-
cans, another British army and the.
French, they cleared up the situation ,
entirely. These gallant men of the
various services flew, walked or rode
in the jaws of death. The boys that
fight our battles for us "take their
chances" and if they are lucky, go
right back for more. They have what
it takes. Recently our fliers smashed.
gaping holes in the dams of Germany.
Many did not come back. They are
over enemy territory almost nightly.;
lo u r other forces have their very
dangerous jobs. We in comfort at
home must never forget that they take
these suicide chances for us,

Mean Thief
A pretty mean piece of business wa
transacted out on the Culross and
Kinloss boundary. Mr, Robert Reid
was awakened at that hour by the farm
gander creating quite a racket. Short,
ly afterwards Mr. Reid investigated,
but could see no cause for alarm. He
noticed a strong smell of gasoline in
the air and examined his car, only to
find the cap removed front the gas
tank and practically all the contents
gone. Upon attempting to get to
Teeswater that morning, Mr. Reid was
left stranded on the road a couple of

The robbery occurred during the night
and was not discovered until early
morning by a passerby. The safe,
which was in the office in the mill,
was pounded and broken by a sledge
and other tools. A mile south on
Highway 9 some papers and check
books were found which had been in
the safe and were discarded by the

FARM COMMANDOS
• With the /ate season this year it
*ill probably be of greater importance
than ever that the farmers of this dis-
trict receive as much assistance from
the people of our oWn .community in
the harvesting of their crops. There
is a great need now for help on the
farms and any who can. assist in this
very important enterprise should make
every :effort to do so. We must have
the food to feed our armies, our muni-
Vein workers, our civilian population,
and our allies that require such assist-
Since from us. There s.hould be some
organized effort made to have all those
who can help with this work register
stating the time or times they are

the time for such a move. With the

Money Can Be Saved By Buying At Home
The business people in every community pay a large percentage of the local taxes;
their stocks and stores tell the citizens and visitors whether the town is a progressive
municipality or is in the doldrums.
The Wingham merchants advertising on this and other pages of this paper, are
doing their utmost during these critical days, to promote the interests of the town by
stocking such goods as are available. They are therefore entitled to your support and by
supporting them you are helping yourself and also the town.
Gasoline and tires are precious at this juncture, so you can save both by doing
your shopping right in. Wingham. In many instances prices are controlled, so there is
actually no object in spending money for transportation.
THE PLAN IN A NUTSHELL
Each week there will appear in the advertisements on this page
the names and addresses of people residing in the Wingham District.
Simply locate your name in one of the advertisements, clip out
the advertisement and present it to the Advance-Times Office on or
