Wingham General HOspital, having
had an operation for appendictis. His
condition is favorable.
Elmir Sellars has signed up with
the R,C.A.F. and will attend the
school at Galt. He reports 'on Octo-
ber 7th.
More Money For Ditty Bags
Last week the Bluevale Red Cross
Unit, collected from different societ-
ies the sum of $43.60 to purchase sup-
plies for Ditty Bags for the sailors.
This week, the amount was increased
by $11.80 from a special collection
taken in the United Church on Sun-
day morning and a box placed on
the Post Office. The Red Cross So-
ciety at Wingham will purchase the
required articles and pack the bags.
The response has been most generous
and the society is very grateful.

tors of Rev. F. G, Fowler and Mrs.
Fowler at the Marie.
Mrs. J. B. Shaw of Regina,• spent

Mr. George Irwin had the* misfor-
tune to fall. on Saturday and break a
bone in his ankle.
Mr. Bob Ross has been laid off
work with a very sore arm. He Was
using it at a machine in the saw-mill
and burst a blood vessel, and the clot
of blood formed \in his arm.

Former Resident Passes -
Mrs. James Robertson has received
word this week of the death at Nan-
ainio, B. Ck, ef her sister-in-law, Mrs.
A. 0. King, formerly Miss Margaret
Robertson. Mrs. King was born at
Bluevale, the second youngest daugh-
ter of the late Mr. .and Mrs. John
Robertson, •
In 1906 she went to Boissevain,
Manitoba, and had been a resident of
Nanaimo for 31 years. She took ac-
tive part in Woman's organization
I,O,D.E. Woman's Auxiliary of the
Nanaimo Hospital; the Hedeth Clinic;
the Woman's Canadian Club and the
bridge club. She was a lover of
flowers, a beautiful floral blanket
from her husband and sons; which
covered the casket was made from
flowers picked from her own garden.
She is survived by her husband and
two sons, also two ' sisters, Mrs,~
Charles (Susan) Scott, of Vancouver,
B. C,, and Mrs. William (Jessie)
Clare, of Seattle, 'Wash., and two
brs,thers, Peter, of Gainsboro„ Man.,
and Charles, of Boissevain, Man.-
Following the funeral service from
the D. J, Jenkins Limited Chapel,
conducted by the Rev. T, W. Reed,
the remains were forwarded to Van-
couver for cremation.'
Fleming and Malcolm Blatt's, of
Bluevale, are nephews.
Harvest Home Service Sunday Next
Rev, F. G. Fowler conducted the
regular service in Knox Presbyterian
Church on Sunday morning. Hts
subject was "Unveiling God" showing
that it is the duty of Christian people
to make known the reality and power
of God, The choir rendered an an-
them, Mrs. Raymond Elliott taking
the solo part.
'Next Sunday the annual Thanks-
giving Harvest Home Service will be
held, The Y. P. S. of Knox, Presby-
terian Church had charge of the even-
ing service, The president, Miss, Jean
Elliott, presided and offered the open-
ing prayer. The scripture lesson was
read by Rev. F. G. Fowler, who also
introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. W.
G. Gourley, of Vancouver, 13, C., who
spoke from the story of 'Christ and
his diciples on the sea of' Galilee, and
compared it with the sea of life.

spiration, Lunch was served at _the
close of the meeting and a social per-
iod enjoyed. s
To Repair 'Parsonage Verandah
The • Women's Association of the
United Church held the regular mon-
thly meeting in the' Sunday school
room. In the absence of the presi-
dent, Mrs. C. Tavener was elected to
preside and conduct the opening de-
votional period., Readings were given
by Mrs, Geo. Thomson and Mrs, Tay-
ener and Mrs. W. J.. Johnston sang a
solo. During the business period the
sum of $100 was voted toward the re-
pairing of the vet andah at the Parson-
age and the painting. •
Contract Let For New School
The school house at school section
N.Q. 8, Morris, (Browntown) has been
pronounced unfit foi• use and a new
building is to be serected; The con-
tract has been given to Robert Mow-
bray of •Whitechurch, who, will com-
mence work as soon as possible. The
building will be frame and • insulated
brick on a concrete base.
The regular meeting of the Mission
Band was held in the school room of
the United church on Saturday after-
noon. The outstanding feature. of the
meeting was a paper by Miss •Margar-
et -Curtis, entitled, "Let Us Worship
Together."
