ian Women's Missionary Society was.
held in the Church with the President,
Mrs. R, J, Scott in the chair. Tire
Scripture lesson was read by Mrs.
Athol Bruce and prayer from the,
Glad Tidings taken by Mrs; W. J.'
period was entitled "The Stranger
Geddes. The Topic for the study
within our Gates" and a paper on
"The Indians", was given by Mrs, A.
Young and one on "The Italians" by
Mrs, R, J., Scott,
Mrs, 0, G, Anderson led in prayer.
A special study for the summer
months outlined in Glad Tidings on
"Issues Facing Christian Missions"
will be taken up and a paper on the
subject will be given by Mrs. 0. G.
Anderson at the next. meeting. The

A
quilting was held in the basement of
the church, when 3 quilts were quilted.
In the afternoon after the quilts were
completed, the W.M.S. meeting was
held, with 16 present. The ,meeting
was led by Mrs. W. F. Campbell. A
Psalm was read responsively, followed
by the Lord's Prayer. Readings were
given by Mrs. Hugh Blair, Mrs. How-
ard Campbell, Mrs. Stanley Cook.
Scripture lesson was read by Mrs.
Norman McDowell and gave a few
comments on it. Prayer service was
led by Mrs. Stanley Cook, Mrs. Mar-
vin McDowell, Mrs. R. Vincent. Mrs.
F. W. Cook presided at the piano. The
president, Mrs, W. McVittie was in
charge Of the business. Sire gave a
report of the Red Cross meeting held
at Auburn when Mrs. Branch of Port
Albert was the guest speaker. The
August meeting is to be the Baby
Band meeting,
Mr. and Mrs, John Clark of Tor-
onto, are spending a couple of weeks
with the formers sister, Mrs, Marvin

Women's Missionary Society
The July meeting . of time W.M.S.
was held on Thursday of last week in
United Church. The president, Mrs.
G. A. Wearring presided and the
theme of the meeting was "Temper-
ance." The opening hymn "Jesus
Saviour Pilot Me" was followed by
prayer by the leader. Mrs, A. J. Sand-
erson read the scripture lesson. "Take
Time to be Holy" was the second
hymn.
The guest speaker was Mrs, Gilles-
pie of Whitechurch who gave a very

Service Held At Sunshine Cemetery
The annual Memorial and Decor-
ation Service in Sunshine Cemetery,
5th line Morris, was held on Sunday
afternoon, July 12th, at 3 o'clock and
was Well attended. Rev. G. H. Dun-
lop of Belgrave United Church con-
ducted the service and Miss Velma
Wheeler, organist, was in charge of
the music. Decorating the graves
with flowers was done before the serv-
ice.
As a text for his address Rev. Dun-
lop chose the words "wherefore seeing
we also are compassed about by so
great a cloud of witnesses," Hebrews
12:1. Hymns sung were "0 God of
:Bethel, Sweet HOur of Prayer and He
Leadeth Me." A quartette from Bel-
grave United Church composed of
Norman Keating, Clifton Walsh,
George Johnston and Ross Anderson
sang, "Where Jesus is 'Tis Heaven
There." The service ended with the

A. successful, dance in aid . of the
Overseas Tobacco Fund was held in
the Forester's Hall on Friday evening
sponsored by local young men. Arth-
ur's Orchestra provided the music,
The largest crowd of the season was
in attendance. A hot dog booth furn-
ished refreshments.
Mission Band Had Picnic
The July meeting of the Happy
Hearts • Mission Band of the United
Church was in the form, of a picnic
held on the church lawn, under the
leadership of Mrs. T. B. Johnston, as-
sisted by Mrs. Earl Anderson. A pro-
gram of races and games was enjoyed,
after which lunch was served.
Earl Anderson, 5th line Morris, had
his tonsils remcrtsed in Clinton Hos-
pital recently. He is recovering fav-
ourably.
Mrs. Neil McCrea who has spent
the past few weeks in a London Hos-
pital, has returned and is at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. R. iMcCrea prior to
going to her own home,
Mrs. Harmon Mitchell of Rothsay,
spent a few ,lays with relatives.
Mrs. Thomas Brydges who has been
a patient in Wing.ham Hospital for
several, days has recovered sufficiently
to return home. .
Mr. and Mrs. F. McDonald and
family of Clinton, visited at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. A. Young.
A number from here attended the
funeral in Blyth 'of Mrs. Turnbull,
mother of Mrs. Rev. A. M, Boyle.
Rev. and Mrs. John Watt and family
of Grimsby, visited at the home of
Mr. Harvey McClenaghan. Miss Mur-
iel Watt remained for a week.
Box Sent Overseas
The Red Cross Society packed
boxes for 10 local boys now overseas,
William and Howard Irwin, Herbert
Garniss, Albert Maddock, Ted, Oxly,
Jack Fellow, Norman Young, Terry
Gallagher, Roy Pierce, and Thomas
Thompson. Each box contained can-
ned meat, nut bread, sardines, boui-
llon cubes, cheese, milk chocolate,
canned milk, tea, coffee, raisins, chick-
lets, shave cream, razor blades, khaki
handerchief. The women's Institute
donated one pound of cookies for 'each
box. The current issue of the Wing-
ham Advance was included in each
box,

Brampton and New Hamburg, spent
the week at their home here.
Mrs. C. H. Wade, Dorothy and
Tommy, Mrs. Harold Vodden and son
Brock-, of Blyth, are spending the
week at Harbour Park, Goderich.

the home of his son Cecil and Mrs.

Master Burke Fowler, London, is

Workers met on Wednesday at the
schOol house. The afternoon was
spent quilting. Mrs.' W. Sharpin
the president of this energetic group
which• have accomplished a great deal
for the cause.
