officially open the 1978
International Plowing Match
and Farm Machinery Show in
Huron County, September
26.
The largest outdoor farm
machinery show in Canada
will be held one mile east of
Wingham, until September
30. A panorama,.of striped
marquees, trailers, booths,
and furrowed fields will
await more than 200,000
visitors. The 1,000-acre site
will contain a tented city,
parking facilities, and plcris
for plowing competitions.
"This will be the biggest
match ever, since its begin-
ning in 1913,- says E. A.
Starr, director of the Agri-
cultural and Horticultural
Societies Branch, Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food. "More than 500
exhibitors are expected,
making seven streets nec-
essary in the tented city.
Every exhibit will be a
special attraction."

The match is famed for
demonstrations of horse-
plowing. Besides catching a
glimpse of old-fashioned
rural Ontario, visitors will
see modern equipment tarn•
ing the sod..
Two hundred contestants,
•including plowmen from
overseas, will • test their
plowing skills for $35,000
prize money. Special classes
will be held for visiting
dignitaries and media' per-
sonalties.
