Horticultural Society
Hears Mrs. Stephenson
The July meeting of the
Brussels Horticultural society was
held at the home of Mrs. E.
Cudmore on July 17 when guests
speaker Mrs, Effie Stephenson of
Seaforth told of her trip to
Trinidad and Tobago. She
described the vegetation there
and told how the vegetables were
so different to ours. The people
arc very poor but know how to
make the most of all plant life.
Main course is mostly fish. A lot
of things are Canadian made and
grown .
Mrs. D. Hemingway presided
for business. Committees named
included: Flower show: Mrs. I.
McLarty, Mrs. Geo Wheeler,
Mrs. D. Hemingway; Supper

conducted another contest.

McCutcheon, Mrs. E. Cudmore.

the leader. Kathy Black, visited
each member of the Garden
Club's garden on Monday. July
10 where they were taken on a
tour by the girls and each
member evaluated her own
garden.
"Belgrave Sweet Peas", met
next at. the home of Kathy Black.
The girls discussed various types
of canning of fruits, vegetables,
jams, jellies, tomatoes and
pickles. Kathy Black demon-
strated how to can tomatoes.
"Belgrave Sweet Peas" on July
21 met at the home of Kathy
Black. The members discussed
plans for Achievement Day which
will be held on August 17.
The girls split into teams and
played a game which reviewed
the required work for the club.

church picnic in the Brussels Park
on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Greg Cook held a surprise
miscellaneous shower at her
home on Saturday evening* to
honour Miss Marjorie Nixon. The
guests were former school class
mates of the hride,•elect. She
received many beautiful presents
for which she is very appreciative.

have recently returned home from
a five week trip to Central U.S.A.
and the Canadian West and
visited with many friends and
relatives.
