residents took their oath of
Canadian citizenship at a Citizen-
ship Court, held alst 'Wednesday
afternoon in the Goderich. Court
House Chambers.
Among those receiving a certi-
ficate of Canadian citizenship
were Goderich town councillor
Stan Profit and his wife Frances.
They came to Canada from
Edinburgh, Scotland in 1960: As
a British subject, Profit was
allowed to run for town council..
Profit said it wasn't a matter 'of if
he would become a Canadian
citizen, but rather -.O Matter of
when.
The citizenship ceremony was a
moving one as those taking part
. accepted the responsibilities of
becoming Canadian 1 citizens . as
well as the rights and priviliges.
Her honour Judge . Elaine
Pensa, new citizenship judge at
the Court of Canadian Citizenship
in London, presided for the
ceremony. She replaces retiring
Judge Campbell Calder. citizen-
ship judge for the last 14 years.
Judge Pensa told the new
Canadian citizens that a county
and its' citiznes are one. The
county depends on the strength
and character of its people. She
*scribed Canada as an ethnic
mosaic and told the new citizens,
"you are Canada's future."
Adding a dash of colour and an
air of dignity and security to the
ceremony, was an RCMP officer.
Also present was Ross Sowerby,
manager of the court, Huron
County Warden , Gerry Ginn,
Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt,. •
Judge F. G. Carter a'nd',represen
tatives of the Maple Leaf
Chapter, 1,0.D.E. Each spoke a
few words of welcome to the new
citizens.

get acquainted with their new
neighbor, Mrs.M. Burghardt.

formerly owned by the late Mrs.
Pearl Kokesch.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler
spent a few days on a trip to North
Bay.
Mr. and. Mrs. Bill Stevens and
family of ' Watford visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John
Vanass.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Engel had a
family get-together on Sunday
when they met to visit with Mr.
and Mrs. John Volland girls who
were home from Marathon for the
weekend. Twenty-nine enjoyed
the supper together.;

years of age and have been a
resident of Canada three out of
the four years prior to applying
for citizenship. This residency
requirement was just recently
lowered from five years. Citizen-
ship oaths can be taken in French
or English.
