Scripture lessons were read by Andrea Coultes, Julie Gnay and Katharine Procter relating to: humbling yourself as a child in order to become great, Jesus and the children and the Wise Men with their gifts. , The envelope contributions are sent to maintain the school's adopted foster child I Wayan Sinta of Bali Indonesia who is now 'eight years old and in Grade three at school. He has been the adopted son for three years. The annual cost is $228. for his support. The envelopes were collected in two small white baskets by Gary McArter and Bruce Higgins. The Junior Choir composed of members of the Sunday School rendered a pleasing anthem, "Give Me Oil in My Lamp," accompanied by Alison. Roberts on her guitar. The first story was given by Mrs. Ross Anderson who told of the hardships endured in the 1850's by the English children who were forced to labour in mines or cotton mills. Adverse conditions caused children to steal food and hide in boxes or barrels for shelter until a Rev. Thomas Stevenson appalled by the filth ) beatings and death of children, began "The Children's Home" which houleil and—eared for needy boys. A second story related by Mrs. John McIntosh "Let the Children Come" I described a home in southern Alberta which adopts children from Cambodia., Coulumbia, and India. There are 27 in the family to date. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wightman held Christmas for their families in Knox United Church basement on Saturday with the following 37 members present: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Montgomery and family, Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hamilton and family of Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore and family of Wingham; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wightrnan and family of Fergus; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Metcalfe and family of Hanover; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Nicol and family of Brampton; and Mr. and. Mrs. Gordon Chapman and Lisa of Weston. The Christmas meeting of the Afternoon Unit of the Belgrave United Church Women was held on December 12 in the church basement. The Call to Worship was given followed by prayer by Mrs. Ross Higgins and scripture reading by Mrs. Stewart Procter. "0 Come All Ye Faithful" was sung followed by meditation by Mrs. Stewart Procter. After the singing of "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night" there was a reading on "Dedication" and the singing of "Silent Night, Holy Night". Mrs. Walter Scott read a poem "The Lighted Candle" by Edna The members of the Knox United Hi-C group are to be* commended for having con- structed a "Nativity Scene" of plywood which has been placed near the church entrance. This beautiful work of art adds much to the Christmas atmosphere for worship. Mrs. Albert Coultes is spending the winter months in an apartment in Listowel. Mr. Sherwood Taylor of Galt spent last Thursday with.Mr. and Mrs.Glenn. Coultes and attended the East Wawanosh Public School Christmas Concert. We are sorry to hear that Little Timmy Coultes has been a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. Mrs. John Evans of Sarnia visited on Sunday with Miss Nora Jacques and then told the story "So Mina a Thing" which was the story of a little boy in Ottawa during depression times and how his family spent Christmas. Mrs. Janisa Coultes then gave a short reading "A Christmas Thought." The officers for the coming year are: Leader-Mrs. Janisa. Coultes; Secretary-Mrs. Janisa Coultes; Treasurer-Mrs. Lawrence Taylor; Programme Convenors-Mrs. Leslie Bolt, Mrs. Earl Anderson and Mrs. Walter Scott. Mrs. Coultes gave the closing worship telling how Phillip Brooks was inspired to write the hymn "0 Little Town of Bethlehem". Van Camp who, is a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital. We are sorry to hear that. Lawrence Taylor has had to return to University Hospital, London. Edgar relatives held their Christmas dinner and also a 90th birthday party in honour of their uncle, Alvin Orvis of Wingham, in the Women's Institute Hal) in Belgrave on Saturday. Thirty-one relatives gathered at the Women's Institute Hall on Sunday where Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna entertained their families at a Christmas party.
