anniversary was celebrated on
Saturday, Sept, 24, by Mr. and
Mrs. Clarke Matheson when the
ladies of group 1 of Melville
Church served a delicious dinner
in the church parlour to fifty
relatives.
Following grace by Rev.
Kenneth Innes, a beautiful old
Gaelic blessing was read by
request of Roy Stewart of Victoria
B.C. who was not able to be
present.
Ian Matheson of Agincourt was
master of ceremonies for a
program of short speeches.
Marianne Matheson, a grand
daughter of the couple delighted
the family with her Scottish
dancing of the Sword Dance and
the Highland Fling.
In the evening, friends were
received in the school room of the
church and in spite of the deluge
of rain, many friends dropped
to offer good wishes. Elaine and
Murray, Pat and Ian and Jean and
Murray Ross assisted
welcoming guests and
refreshments were served by
neices and granddaughters of the
couple.
The bride of 50 years ago was
wear .ing a pow der blue dress
with long sheer sleeves and
corsage of golden roses and
baby's breath.
Hazel and. Clarke were married
on Wed. Sept 21, 1927 at the
home of the bride, where they
now live. Born in North Dakota,
she moved to Brussels with her
parents as a child and has spent
her life here, with the exception
of four years when she taught
Kindergarten in Galt, From 1961
to 68, she spent seven happy
years teaching Kindergarten in
COUPLE MARKS 50th ANNIVERSARY -- Mr. and
Mrs. Clarke Matheson of Brussels celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary Saturday afternoon at
Melville Church. More than 50 relatives and friends,
including MPP Murray Gaunt, attended.

Clarke came to Brussels in 1919
from Tara to work in the Brussels.
Creamery for Stewart Bros, and
spent 45 years as butter maker
during the ensuing ownership, of ,
F.M. Samis and R.B. Cousins. He
retired in 1966.
Both are in good health and,
enjoying interest in Melville
Church affairs. St. Johns Masonic
Lodge and Brussels Friendship
Club.
Relatives who attended the
dinner were from Toronto,
Aurora, Dundas, Phoenix
