The September meeting of the 8th and 16th Unit was held Wednesday evening, Sept. 14 at the home of Joyce Van Vliet with 8 members present. Marilyn McDonald opened the meeting with everyone singing hymn "Take Time to be Holy". The scripture reading was from John 5: 30-33 and also Corinthians 4: 1 - 5 followed by prayer. The topic for the evening was "Self seeking" with the question being asked. Suppose you were asked to list, in order of their importance, your outstanding concerns or interests. What would be at the head of the list? If we are entirely honest in all probability 'Self" would be at the top. The closing thought in the topic expressed in the verse, Humble we must be if to Heaven we go; High is the roof there, but the gate is low. The members joined in singing of hymn, "More Love to Thee" and this portion was closed with prayer. The treasurers' report was given and the copper collection and regular collection was received. Announcements were made concerning one U.C.W. general meeting and a brief discussion and the Fowl. Supper of November 2nd. Following the meeting lunch was served by Marjory Fraser and the hostess. Institute Meeting Mrs, Emerson Durst of Egmondville, well known Horticulturist, demonstrated flower arrangements at the Walton Women's Institute meeting in the community hall on Wednesday evening, September 21 with 25 members present. Mrs. William Humphries, president, called the meeting to order and opened in the usual manner. Mrs. Bev Smith was nominated to read the minutes in the absence of the secretary- treasurer, Mrs. Ken McDonald. Correspondence was dealt with and the treasurer's report given. Invitations were accepted from Seaforth W.I. to attend their meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 8:15 in the Public School and to Ethel W.I. on Wednesday, October 12 at 8 p.m. in the community hall. Mrs. Nelson Reid and Mrs. Harold Bolger are to be the voting delegates to attend the county rally at the Howick Community Centre on Monday, October 3. Registration is at 9:30 with the opening at ten. It was decided to have a sing-song with Mrs. Neil McGavin. in charge for the afternoon entertainment. There is also to be a display from the quilt course taken last winter. It was voted to have a booth at Will Bennetts' sale on Monday, October 3. Conveners were chosen to look after arrange- ments. U C W. learns about Brazil The evening Unit met in the church pal-lour Sept. 7 when Hank Ten Pim showed slides and told about their work in Brazil. Mrs. Kellingtofi thanked the speaker and presented a gift. Mrs. Nelva Scott gave a story "One Room School".. WS. Rene Richman took the chair for the business progrant The Institute will again sponsor the euchre parties at the hall this winter with the first one to start oh Tuesday, October 25th. It was vo• ted to finish the season with a dessert euchre. The lunch to be looked after by the hostesses, the same as last year, also the admission the sa ve. This being th e e family and consumer affairs, meeting. Mrs. Bev Smith and Mrs. Ron Smith read a few up to date current events. Then Mrs. R. Bennett introduced Mrs. E. Durst who, brought her flowers, foliage and dishes when she delighted the audience with ten beautiful arrangements, giving many useful hints as she worked. Mrs. Ben Smith thanked her and presented a gift on behalf of the Institute. Following the, institute grate, Mrs. Harold Hudie and Mrs. Keith Rock served lunch. Visiting with Mrs. Jean. Broadfoot last week were Mrs. Gladys Gardiner, Ottawa and Mrs. Mildred Jepson, Brantford. On Wednesday Mrs. Wm. Farquharson and her mother, Mrs. Gluten Berger visited at the same home. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Robert. McMillan, Mrs. Fern Patterson • and. Mrs. Ivy Henderson, all of Seaforth called for a visit with Mrs. Broadfoot. Mr. and Mrs. David Brady and girls are spending this week at her father's home in McKillop when W.J.Leerning, Tom and. Bob are attending the plowing match this week near Kingston. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rutledge of Ottawa spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Gertie Bennett. Edward McClure, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McClure who had been in Australia since January returned to his home , recently. Mrs. Ken. McDonald has returned home from Seaforth Hospital a week ago following surgery the week before. Mr. and, Mrs. Neil McGavin left on Sunday to spend the week at the International Plowing Match near Kingston. ;Recent visitors with Mrs. Maud Leeming were Mr. and Mrs. John Boyd, Seaforth; Mrs. Kathleen Danby of Brussels and her daugahter Bertha at husband Ron of Toronto. At the time of writing Mr, Sadie McDonald is a patient Wingham Hospital. It is hoped 1.1, hear she is out again in a fe days. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Achille of Hearst spent a few days la week with Mr. and Mrs. Roll Achilles and other member s the family.
