THE CROWDS CAME — An estimated 3000 people turned up in
Brussels last Wednesday for the annual Fall Fair. Besides displays
and a midway, there was competition in a number of livestock
classes and heavy and light horse shows to fill the afternoon with

buying an excessive amount of
glue from local stores. Some
merchants became alarmed,
fearing that these people were
indulging in the very dangerous
habit of glue sniffing, and refused
to sell them anymore. Glue
sniffing can damage the brain and
has been the cause of death much
too often. When we read of such
incidents in other centres we say
"how terrible". When it seems
possible that some of the young in
our own village are taking such a
chance it is horrifying.

What is happing to our
weather? Not so long ago rain was
very much neede. ,Now we have
had grey skies with downpours,
with little let up, day after day.
Occasionally skies are blue and
the sun comes through, but, in
what seems at times only
minutes, we are caught in yet
another rainstorm. It makes one
wonder sometimes if what some
people believe is true. Is it
possible that the probing into
outer space, and bomb testing,
has something to do with the
unpredictable weather
behaviour?

A spotted red heifer,
purchased at a Brussels
Stockyards sale by Ian McDonald
had an exiting and, hazardous
time the Friday evening it
escaped from Mr. *Donald's
herd. It was seen in various areas
of the village that night. The last
report was that it was being
chased across the bridge at 3:00
a.m. by some late. revellers and
th .ere has been no report of it
having been seen since. What
happened to the poor harassed
beast? Did it meet a gruesome
end or is it grazing peacefully
among somebody's herd?

Patient: "Doc, can you cure my
skin disease?"
Doctor: "I can't make any rash
promises."
