Centennaires
BY LOIS McARTER
The Brussels Bulls were at home
to Seaforth Centennaires on Sun
day, Dec. 21 for the usual good
game of hockey between the two
teams.
End-to-end, scoreless hockey
continued until 1:09 remained in
the first period when Blake Flett
found the mark on a pass from
Kevin Lee and Kevin McArter to
give Brussels a 1-0 lead.
The same brand of hockey
continued in the second period as
both goalies made several saves
and the period remained scoreless.
It was almost a repeat performance
of the first period with just 1:24 left
of the 20 minutes when Kevin Lee
scored after being Set up by Kevin
McArter and Tim Fritz.
It was at the 17:02 mark of the
third period when Mike Vincent
flipped the puck in the net in a
scramble around the Seaforth
goalie to give the Bulls a 3 - 0 lead.
Eight minutes later Kevin Lee
scored from Mike Chapman for the
second goal of the period, and then
just 37 seconds later Paul Robinson
beat the goalie assisted by Mike
Chapman and Blake Flett.
The remainder of the period was
scoreless and goalie Pat Chambers
earned No. 1 star of the game for
keeping Seaforth off the score
board.
The weekly home game draw of
$50 was won by John Turner of
Harriston. The draw of $ 100 for the
month of December was won by
Ron Smith of Listowel.
TIECLINTON6-6
Boxing Day had the Clinton
Mustangs in town toplayhockey. It
was mid-way through the first
period when Clinton opened the
scoring in the see-saw battle.
Within 55 seconds Brussels came
back to tie the game when Marty
Rutledge scored on a pass from
Sean Kieffer and Doug Taylor. A
repeat performance just 43 se
conds later put Brussels in the lead
when Kevin Lee scored assisted by
Sean Kieffer and Blake Flett. But
Clinton never gave up and^ied the
game at 4:42 to end the first period
in a 2 - 2 deadlock.
In the second period Clinton
scored in the opening minute of
play to take the lead and added to
that lead at the 16:23 mark.
Brussels got their only goal of the
period at the 9:00 minute mark to
come within one when Kevin
Johnston deflected a shot by Doug
Shaw. The remainder of the period
was scoreless.
Brussels rebounded early in the
third when Tim Fritz scored from
Marty Rutledge and Doug Taylor
to tie the game. They went into the
lead at 10:51 when Dave Harding
scored from Kevin Johnston and
Blake Flett. Just 29 seconds later
Mike Chapman scored from Tim

Things were looking not bad
until the seven minute mark and
then Clinton staged a repeat
performance and scored two goals
24 seconds apart to tie the game.
The remainder of the rather
high-spirited rugged scene re
mained scoreless to end in a 6 - 6
tie. Clinton who are virtually out of
a playoff spot have always given
the Bulls as close a game of hockey
as any time all season long.
The Bulls were to play Mt.
Brydges Sunday at home (which
will be over when you receive the
paper). Their next two games will
be played Tuesday, Jan. 6 in
Seaforth at 8:30 and Friday, Jan. 9
in Mitchell. They will be at home
Sunday, Jan. 11/87 against Exeter
at 2 p.m.
The weekly home game draw of
$50 made on Boxing Day was won
by Marlene Rutledge.

The Friday night prior
Christmas the Intermediate team
travelled to Mitchell to play
Monkton.
Monkton dominated the first
period of play taking a command
ing 3-0 lead. Brussels must have
gotten a good pep talk between
periods as they came out and
scored three goals in the first eight
minutes of the period.
New recruit Dave Murray scored
the first goal unassisted. The
second goal was scored by Gerry
Wheeler unassisted, with the third
goal being scored by Rob Core from
Kevin Deitner.
Monkton came through with a
goal at 9:53 to break the tie, but
Brussels’ Dave Stephenson scored
at 4:37 from Ken Cousins to tie the
score once more. Withonly 2:43
remaining in the period Ken
Higgins came through unassisted
to give Brussels the lead for the
first time.
Monkton scored in the first inute
of the third period to tie the score
and then at the 11:28 mark scored
the go-ahead goal. Brussels’ Dave
Montgomery scored at 6:38 on a
pass from Ken Cousins to give the
Crusadersatieoncemore. Both
goalies stood their ground for the
remainder of the game and the
score remained locked at six for the
final whistle.
The same two teams will have
played in Brussels on Saturday
night at 7 p.m. and the Crusaders
will be facing Arthur for an 8 p.m.
game on Sunday (after press time).
There will be no home game for
the Crusaders on Sunday, Jan. 4 as
they will be participating in a
tournament in Milverton Jan. 2, 3,
and 4.

Swimming lessons began at the new Brussels, Morris and Grey community swimming pool in June and
the number of children using the pool exceeded even the most optimistic projections.
Matt Lee added the second goal
unassisted before the second
period ended. Wavne Alexander
scored early in the third to give the
home team a3 - 0 lead. Then within
the minute Greg Fritz scored from
Ryan Finch and Dan Pearson. With
only four seconds remaining on the
clock Dan Pearson scored from
Brett Clarkson to end the game at 5
- 0 for the shut-out game.
The second game of the night
had the Peewee team playing
Palmerston. Brett Lee opened the
scoring at the 5:52 mark of the
period and just 18 seconds later
Darren Johnston scored assisted
by Danny Beuermann. With 1:24
remaining in the period Brett Lee
scored once more on a pass from
Brian McArter.
The Palmerston goalie settled in
to keep Brussels off the scoreboard
for the remainder of the game
while David Johnston had stood
firm in the Brussels’ net to claim
the shut-out and the 3 - 0 victory for
Brussels.

ed to Ripley on Dec. 17 to
participate in their most exciting
game of the season.
The girls hadn’t gotten their legs
under them after the long ride up
and were caught by two quick goals
by the home team.
They managed to keep them off
the scoreboard for the remainder of
the period.
Brussels rebounded by scoring
two quick goals early in the second
period with Janice Jacklin getting
the pair and tying the score.
It was a continuous, up-and-
down-the-ice battle for the girls
until Joanne Van Keulen scored to
break the tie.
Jennifer Machan scored an
insurance marker for Brussels who
hung on to claim a well deserved 4 -
2 victory.
All minor schedules will resume
the first full week in January.
