Steven Marks and An­ drew Campbell greeted everyone with the White Gift Service Program. The service opened with the singing of “O Little Town of Bethlehem” followed by the call to Worship by Bill Coultes, superin­ tendent of the Sunday School. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the candle lighting ceremony in which he expressed “Joy” of the season. Everyone took part in the Prayers of Approach and Confession. The scripture, Matthew 2:1-23 was read by Sharon Keller and Jennifer Procter. The Junior choir under the direction of Mrs. George Procter, delighted everyone with the ‘‘An­ gel Song.” Two presentations which illu­ strated two ways our Mission and Service Funds are used were dramatized. Ruth Higgins, Grace Carmichael, Mark Coultes and Heather Hopper took part in the first presentation, ‘‘Kids Warm Line”. The Kids Warm Line is a Community Development Project in Kingston, Ontario that assists children and their parents. Many children in this area are left alone after school until a parent returns from work. The Kids Warm Line offers these and other children emergency assistance, practical help or just a friend to talk to. The second presentation was based on the work of the Scott Hospital in Lesotho, Africa. The dramatization showed how trained doctors and health workers assist the people in Africa. Edgar family celebrates Christmas Fifty Edgar relatives met in the Belgrave Women’s Institute Hall on Saturday, December 13 for their annual Christmas get-to-gether and dinner. All the relatives were present except Dean Edgar who was writing exams at Windsor University. Following the smorgasbord din­ ner, a sing-song of Christmas Carols was enjoyed by all. Santa Claus arrived about 8p.m. much to the amusement of the children and gifts were presented to young and old. Those present were from Petro­ lia, Brigden, Toronto, Aylmer, Clinton, Lucknow, Wingham, Blyth and Belgrave. People around Belgrave The final presentation was entitled ‘‘Sick Days Til Christ­ mas.” This was a musical puppet presentation where a little boy, Harold, was feeling sorry for himself, but when his grandfather explained all the ridicule and hardships that Mary and Joseph endured Harold didn’t think that he had it so bad after all. The soloist, Harold, was performed by Ian Morton and the puppeteers were Margie Gordon, Candice Irwin and Sabrena Black. Grace Carmichael and Andrew Cull took up the white gift offering while Corey McKee and Doug Casemore took up the regular offering. Rev. Roberts lead in prayer. Bill Coultes then reported on Ronnie Rosimo the foster child from the Phillipines, where the white gift donations go to help support Ronnie for one year. To close the inspirational white gift service, everyone joined in singing, ‘‘Joy to the World.” The junior choir sang the benediction. Euchre players take a break Five tables were in play for the final euchre for 1986 at the Women’s Institute Hall, Belgrave. UCW unit celebrates Christmas The ladies of the Afternoon Unit of the Belgrave U.C. W. met at the home of Mrs. Janisa Coultes for the Christmas meeting. Each brought a gift for the survival through friendship house in Goderich. The leader Mrs. Sara Anderson expressed appreciation to the hostess for inviting the group of ladies to her home. Mrs. Anderson read from the front cover of the December Oberserver which is from John: Chapter 1. The business was conducted and the officers were appointed for the coming year. Mrs. Janisa Coultes led an inspirational program about the birth of Jesus. Stories were read by Mrs. Jim Hunter and Mrs. Olive Bolt telling of the possible happen­ ings on those days leading up to that most important day when the Deity first came to earth in the form of the Baby Jesus Christ who came to save mankind from sin. The singing of Christmas Carols throughout the program was en­ joyed by all. Mrs. Glenn Coultes read a humorous poem about Christmas Decorating and Mrs. Anderson conducted a Christmas contest of questions. A time of fellowship was enjoyed during which time the hostess served tea and a variety of Christmas goodies. Danny Thompson of Goderich who has just returned home from a eight-month work period at Ot­ tawa, was a visitor with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston on Sunday. Danny will be going back to Fanshawe in Janu­ ary. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
