Audrey Bos wins Congeniality trophy at Hall rice 4-H Club Awards Night Simon Hallahan of RR 3, Blyth, 86 years young, was the guest of honour at the Hallrice 4-H Dairy Club’s annual awards night and banquet in Westfield December 10, where he was presented with a gift from the Club, as well as with a plaque from Clinton office of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, in recognition of his long career of service to hundreds of young people in the county. Beginning in the late 30’s, Mr. Hallahan served as one of the first leaders of the original Huron County Boys and Girls Club, an organization fostering knowledge of the purebred dairy breeds, and later, as a leader of county4-H swine and beef clubs, before taking up the leadership of the Hallrice 4-H Dairy Club in 1952, a club which later became the largest 4-H dairy club in Canada. He retired from active leader­ ship a few years ago, handing over the reins to his nephew Jim Hallahan and to Fred Meier, who lead the Hallrice Club today, although Simon still attends most meetings “to keep an eye on things.’’ After the banquet and entertain­ ment by dancer Laura Hallahan and by a group of senior club members, the annual awards were presented to the top club members of the past season, M.C.’d by Halirice Dairy Club president Audrey Bos, with the assistance of Audrey Bos of RR 3, Auburn, left, was the winner of the coveted Congeniality Award at the Hallrice 4-H Dairy Club’s Awards Night in Westfield on December 10. Liz Stewart, of RR 1, Dublin was named top club member of the year, receiving the Harry Franken Award for her score of 974 marks out of a possible l.OOOfor the year’s work, although Miss Stewart herselfwas unable to be presentfor the ceremony. Theresa Knox of RR 1, Blyth, was the runner-up with a total score of 953. The Howson and Howson Tro­ phy for the Top Senior Showman went to Lisa Boonstoppel of R 1, Auburn, while her sister, Tanya, won the Continustore Award for turning in a record book which earned a perfect score, 200 marks out of 200. Audrey Bos of RR 3, Auburn was senior showman runner-up, while Anita Bos of RR contribution to the Club. 3, Blyth, and Liz Stewart tied for second place with their record books. Hank Tersteege of RR 3, Blyth, took the Soilab Trophy as the top Novice member of the year, with a score of 853, followed by Karen Bakker of RR 3, Auburn, with a score of 852. Audrey Bos also won the coveted Congeniality Award, the only award winner chosen by club members themselves. The trophy was donated by Jim and Lorraine Hallahan, and presented by Mrs. Hallahan.
