Greeting were Rev. SnihurandEdnaReid.The ushers were John Hoggart and Ed Salverda. Rev. Snihur welcomed all and gave the call to worship. The lighting of the second advent candle of “Joy” was done by Marsha Szusz, Kerri and Jennifer. Announcements were given. Next Sunday there will be a hymn sing at 10:45 a.m. Orna­ ments will be collected and placed on the Christmas tree at this time. The service will include Wingham Bell Ringers. After the service the Christmas pot luck dinner will be sharedfollowed by games and a special treat for the children. On Thursday, December 11a Christ­ mas party will be held for Senior and Junior youth groups at 8 p.m. in the church. The children’s time song, “Away in a manger” story was about Little Boy George a very Art Clark remains education chairman Art Clark of Wingham has been re-elected chairman of the Huron County Board of Education, a position to which he was first elected at the Board’s Innaugural meeting in 1985, after serving for two terms as vice-chairman. In making the nomination, John Elliott, trustee for Blyth, Morris and East Wawanosh, said that since Mr. Clark was first elected to the board by supporters in Wing­ ham, Howick and Turnberry in 1982, he had worked on a number of committees, and had “served the Board tremendously well.” At the innaugural meeting December 1, John Jewitt, RR 1, Londesboro, was re-elected vice- chairman of the board; Joan Van Den Broek of RR 4, Goderich, was re-elected chairman of the Educa­ tion Committee; Tony McQuail of RR 1, Lucknow, was re-elected chairman of the Management Committee; and Graeme Craig of RR 1, Walton, was re-elected chairman of the Personnel Com­ mittee. All positions were re-elected by acclamation, except for the posi­ tion of Member-at-Large, which had two nominations: Sally Rath- well of RR 5, Clinton, and Donald McDonald of RR 2, Brussels. After election by secret ballot, Mr. McDonald was declared the winn­ er. The position of Member-at- Large is usually held by the Board’s immediate past chairman, which has been trustee Eugene FrayneofRR3, Goderich. How­ ever, due to the repercussions of Bill 30, the provincial bill transferr­ ing jurisdiction for the children of separate school supporters in Huron to the Huron/Perth Separ­ ate School Board, Mr. Frayne will no longer have a seat on the Huron Board after Dec. 31, 1986. Earlier in the meeting, the Board selected Mr. McDonald as its representative to the Ontario Public School Trustees Association (OPSTA), with Mr. Craig as alternate. The Anthem was given by the Junior choir accompanied by Gail Lear on the organ, Barb Bosman on piano and Marsha Szusz was the director. The scripture lesson was from Luke “Christ is born”. The sermon “A time for joy’ ’ was about a family with no money who made pictures of what they would like to give and everyone was happy. The presentation of White Gifts and the offering all were brought to the front of the church and put in white baskets. This was followed with prayer of dedication. Next Sunday evening an interde­ nominational Christmas service will be held at Blyth United Church at 8 p.m. ' A large number enjoyed the special children’s pageant service Sunday evening. Greeting was Rev. Snihur and Brad Thompson. The ushers were Kevin Wright, Michael Radford, Bryan Whyte and Shannon Duizer. The Sunday School children and teachers occu­ pied the front seats. Rev. Snihurwelcomedall and led in prayer. Scripture was read by Paul Jewitt. Junior choir led in music accompanied by Marsha Szusz. The pageant, the Christmas Story was well presented. Many thanks were expressed to teachers and pupils for their work and time. After the service a social time in the Sunday School rooms was enjoyed with cake and coffee served by the Sunday School. Seventeen members and special guest Rev. Dave Snihur met for dinner at the Steakhouse Restau­ rant, Seaforth on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. After the dinner all met at the home of Gay Salverda. Gay opened the meeting with a poem. Rev. Dave Snihur led in prayer. Ida Salverda read the scripture from Luke Chapter 2. Christmas carols were sung. Christmas readings were given by Clara Riley, Margaret Taylor, and Renee Snell. Rev. Dave Snihur read a Christmas story, followed by prayer. Amelia Rice conducted the business. Roll call was answered at Wl card 7 tables Couple weds in Londesboro Saturday Congratulations to Leanne Thurlow and Darryl Beattie who were married in the church on Saturday, December 6. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson held Christmas for their family on the weekend. Present were Beth and Ray Radford, London and Lindaand JohnLawrie, Rob and Jennifer, Kitchener. Allen and Ruth Shaddick visited party There were seven tables of cards in play on Friday night at the W.I. card party. Winners were ladies’ high, Dorothy Daer; lone hands, Marie Krauter; low, Elma Jewitt; men’s high, Don Buchanan; lone hands, Elmer Townsend; low, Roberta Plumsteel (playing as a man). In charge was Marg Ander­ son assisted by Elizabeth. The next cards will be played on January 9. with a bible verse, and minutes of thelastmeeting were read. The treasurer’s report was given by Margaret Taylor. Correspondence was read. An invitation was received from the Londesboro U.C.W. to join them for their Christmas party meeting on Dec­ ember 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the church for a pot luck supper, guest speaker and a cookie exchange. A thank you card was received from Gladys Leiper. A motion was made by Trudy Pollard and seconded by Gay Salverda to remember shut- ins with Christmas treats. Trudy Pollard, Jean Scott, Gay Salverda, Rev. Dave and Caron Snihur will deliver the treats. Rev. Snihur closed the meeting with the Lord’s Prayer. Members exchanged Christmas gifts. Trudy Pollard presented Dave and Caron with a Christmas gift from the U.C.W. Dave and Caron thanked the ladies. Following grace a delicious lunch was served by Gay and her group. on Sunday with Jeff and Karin Shaddick, Stephen and Crystal in London. Leonard Vodden of Paris visited on Sunday with his sister Dora Shobbrook. On Wednesday there were nine players at shuffleboard. High scores were by Hazel Reid and Reg Lawson.
