Communion held at Knox Conservation saves schools money Close to $175,000 has been saved in reduced costs since the Huron County Board of Education became committed to a program of energy conservation in the sum mer of 1983. In a report recently released by Board plant manager Mike Rau, figures indicated that substantial savings have been realized by renovating several schools throughout the county, and bv replacing old equipment with new in a program designed to reduce consumption of hydro, oil and natural gas. This has been accomplished by re-roofing 14 county schools, replacing windows in 55 class rooms and two gyms, converting the gym lighting at F. E. Madill and McCurdy Public School from incandescent to sodium lighting, installing energy controllers and monitors at several schools, in stalling day/night thermostats in six elementary schools and all portable classrooms, and install ing indoor/outdoor temperature controllers on the boiler systems at five schools. Mr. Rau’s figures show that the accumulated savings (in 1986 dollars) from June, 1984, to June, 1986, have amounted to $35,909.70 m hydro, $110,629.40 in gas, and Millian played organ and piano prelude. Life and Work of the church and prayers were given. Mrs. Greg Park and Jake Middle- $27,649.60 in oil, for a grand total of $174,188.70. Considerations for the 1987 budget of program maintenance include further window and light ing conversions, additional pro grammable thermostats, energy controllers and monitors, a concen trated effort to update caulking and weatherstripping, and an aware ness of all staff of energy-saving techniques.
