Sports Club elects Dave Gamble president (WTa/fon \’/\v/ Mrs. Betty McCall Walton UCW holds Christmas meeting The United Church Women met in the basement of Duff’s United Church for their Christmas meet­ ing Wednesday evening, Dec. 3. Prior to the meeting a pot luck supper was enjoyed by the 12 ladies. Ruth Axtmann of Huron- East Regional was a guest. Walton 2 decorated the basement in the Christmas theme. The worship service led by Walton I. Marie McGavin played Christ­ mas music prior to the meeting. A couple of special hymns were practised for the U.C.W. special White Gift service held “HopeThrough Giving’’ was the theme for the White Gift Service Sunday morning at Duff’s United Church. Mrs. Ron McCallum greeted at the door and gave out bulletins. Mrs. Ian Wi.'bee was organist. Receiving the offering were Allan Searle, Keith Wilbee and Laverne McClure. Rev. Bonnie Lamble led the Junior choir in a couple of songs followed by the candle lighting assisted by Amanda and Carol CHSS students writing exams BY LISA BOONSTOPPEL Central Huron Secondary School is a busy place this time of year, but students are brimming with the Christmas spirit, despite the heavy workload and exams in full swing. Holidays start December 20. ExamsstartedMonday. Most exams count for 50 per cent of the course mark, so great pressure is brought to bear on all students to work for good grades. However, no student seems to have forgotten the Christmas spirit, as demonstrated by the Christmas tree standing in the foyer, beautifully decorated by the students. To raise funds, the Students’ Council is selling real mistletoe, and have developed a “Candy­ gram,” which may be purchased for just 50 cents, and delivered within the school totheobjectof one’s affections. Needless to say, this procedure has proven very useful to excessively shy swains, service in January. This was followed by singing Christmas Carols. Business was conducted by Marion Godkin assisted by Mari­ lyn McDonald reading minutes and thank you cards. The annual meeting of the church will be heldonSunday, Jan. 18. A motion was made to go ahead with the purchasing of new dishes. The Sunday School concert is next Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Christmas Eve Service will be held at Bluevale United Church this year. Gamble in lighting the candles of last Sunday on Peace and today on Hope. Announcements were given. End of the year reports are to be handed in to Marilyn McDonald as soon as possible. The Youth Group will meet at 7:30 to go to Cal lend ar Nursing Home in Brussels next Sunday evening then go to Bluevale Church for a social evening with a gift exchange under $3. Everyone is to take some Christmas goodies for lunch. who neeu not even sign their names unless they want to! Sports activities are being held in the gyms each noon hour. In one gym, a fast shot basketball contest is being held, with the record holder being Don Hern with 13 consecutive shots, while a hockey scoring skill-testing contest is set up in the other gym. Several students have succeeded in netting two shots out of three, but no one has scored the big three yet. An Airband Contest will be held at the dance on December 18, which celebrates the end of the school term. An airband is a group who mimes the actions of a favourite rock group, while the actual sound of the real group is played on tape. A fee of $10 is required by all groups who wish to enter the contest. A reminder to all those who bought oranges from students: your oranges are now in, and can be picked up at CHSS at any time. Couple honoured Belated congratulations were celebrated in the form of a surprise dinner party at the home of Dave and Debbie Collins of Hensail on Sunday afternoon. Following anenjoyablesocial hour a presentation of a walnut dining room clock (engraved with their names and wedding date) was made to Dave and Debbie on behalf of their Walton friends. Everyone was then treated to a chicken salad buffet, with the centre piece being a beautifully decorated wedding cake. Those in attendance were: Jack and Lorraine Nelemans, Nelson and Maxine Marks, Dorothy Shol- dice, Don and Pat Nolan, Olga Smith, Jerry and Anne Ryan, Howard and Audrey Hackwell, Neil and Marie McGavin and Doug and Jean Kirkby. Unable to attend were Casey Jones, Murray Smith, Joe and Lin Steffler. Dave Gamble presided over the meeting with Bev Stevenson assis­ ting as secretary. Minutes of the last meeting were read. The treasurer’s report was given by Karen Hoegy. The annual Walton poker rally on Feb. 1, 1987 was discussed as were clinics for ball. There was a very poor turnout considering there were at least 70 families participating in ball this past season. The December meeting of the Walton Area Sports Club was held Dec. 3, at Dave Gambles. The election of officers was held. President is Dave Gamble; Vice- president, Betty McCallum; Trea­ surer, Ernie Livingston.
