The Citizen, 1986-12-10, Page 11THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1986. PAGE 11. Hullett to talk duck damage with MNR At the November 4 meeting of Hullett Township Council, Clerk Harry Lear was asked to arrange a meeting early in the new year with The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ducks Unlimited to discuss flooding problems at Tony Fidom ’ s property, on Concession 7, as well as to discuss the crop damage done by ducks and geese. Road signs and drains were topics of discussion at the regular meeting of council on November 4, and at the special meeting on November 18. Council carried the motion that the county drainage superintendent work with the county engineer on repairs to the berm and catch basin on the Ball Drain, Branch B. A by-law to impose special annual drainage rates upon land in respect of which money is borrow ed under the Tile Drainage Act 1971, in the amount of $20,000 was given three readings and passed by council. The Road Superintendent was instructedtoinstall “No winter maintenance” signs where need ed, and to install a dead end sign on Concession road 4-5, between township property and MNR land. Tenders were opened from companies bidding to supply fuel to the township. The bid from United Co-operatives was accept ed, to supply diesel fuel at 39.5 cents per litre, regular gas at 35.9 cents per litre, and furnace oil at 22.9 cents per litre. John Beane was granted permis sion to sell Christmas trees from his house. Council also gave permissiontoR. J. Feartoplace his bees on the east half of Lot 13, Concession 2, at a cost of $25 per year. A property standards by-law was given three readings and passed by council at the special meeting November 18. It pre scribes standards for the occu pancy and maintenance of proper- y withinthetownship. A motion was also passed that the township adopt the maintenance and occu pancy standardsforthe Ontario Home Renewal Program as pre scribed by the Ministry of Hous ing. The Association of Municipali ties of Ontario (OMA) contacted council in regard to pay equity in municipalitiesunder Bill 105 as amended. While the AMO agrees with the bill in principle, it is opposed to it in its present form. Hullett Council decided to add its support to the AMO’s position. Mailing deadlines this weekend Although it is too late for Canada Post to promise to deliver 4th class parcels before Christmas, it says there is still time to send off first-class items. Deadline for first-class mail (including parcels, letters and sealed cards) going out of town is Friday, December 12. The dead line for first-class in-town mail is Wednesday, December 17. A special 29-cent stamp, sold in booklets of 10, is available at post offices for many domestic greeting cards mailed between now and the end of January. The discount is offered by agreement between Canada Post and the greeting card industry, and involves special envelopes which carry a pre-coded matrix on which the sender fills in the post code of the address, thus permitting machine-sorting of the cards. Greeting cards with specially- marked envelopes may be pur chased in most card shops and stationery stores.
