Hundreds of children from the Blyth area had a chance to talk with Santa Claus and get a bag of candy from
the jolly old gent in Blyth Saturday afternoon. Santa’s helpers, the Blyth Lions Club, also showed a movie
to the children at Blyth Memorial Hall.

Church holds White Gift service
Blyth United Church Sunday
School conducted the White Gift
Service at the church on Sunday.
Lori Appleby narrated each phase
of the celebration, and Kevin
Souch read the first scripture.
The choir was augmented by the
intermediate and junior choirs for
this service. Sung between each
celebration were “Good News,’’
“A Song as a Gift of God”, “Were
You There”, “There’s a Song in
the Air”, “Oh to have been” and
“Sing Out the News”.
The nursery and kindergarten
classes sang “Happy Birthday,
Jesus” around a lighted birthday
cake and presented their white
gifts.
The grade one and two classes
told about the sharing of gifts, and
presented their gifts. Members of
the intermediate and senior class
es presented a skit about Christ
mas customs.
The congregation was led in
singing the hymn “Joy to the
World” by the brass ensemble of
Julie Howson, Elaine Poore, Hea
ther Bauman and Ken Bauman.
Four intermediate boys acted as
ushers. Each member of the
congregation was given a large star
by the members of the Sunday
School and the church was beauti
fully decorated for the Christmas
season.

The Junior Farmers organiza
tion came under heavy fire from
Ms. Rankine, who said the LLBO
had received numerous complaints
in recent months over minors
drinking at Junior Farmer func
tions throughout Ontario.
“We have a hell of a time with
(Junior Farmers),” she said,
“because half of them are minors,
and cannot be excluded from
functions.”

She said that the Junior Farmers
say that if they do not allow liquor at
their functions, nobody will come,
but warned that “whenever min
ors are allowed (at a licensed
function), you are attracting a lot of
people from a lot of places who
don’t give a damn.”
“But you, as the permit holder,
must assume responsibility for the
actions of anyone at the function, or
even for their actions after they
leave the party.”
