The Citizen, 1986-12-10, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1986. __ Hundreds watch Brussels Santa Claus parade Despite intermittent snowfall, hundreds of people lined Brussels’ main street Saturday morning to watch Santa Gaus come to town as part of the annual Santa Claus parade. After the parade Santa handed out candies at the fire hall (not at the Legion as we erroneously reported last week). The parade was led by the Seaforth District High School girls’ marching band and also featured the Brussels Twirlettes majorettes. Many groups and businesses had floats in the parade. Winners included: Best club float - Brussels Cubs; Brussels Brownies and Guides, second; best clown -- Sue Wilson, Ainsley and Trevor Wilson second; best com mercial float -- (category 1) McDonald Lumber, Radford Auto Parts second; (Category 2) McCut cheon Motors; best Christmas display -- Brussels Legion; best vehicle on wheels (antique), Brus sels Lions, Radford Auto Parts second; funniest float -- Callander Nursing Homes, Jamesway Hot Tubs, second; best go-cart or snowmobile -- Walton Sports, Howick Mutual second; best over all float -- Brussels Optimist Club, Brussels Leos second. Snow didn’t stop the Seaforth District High School Girls Band from entertaining people at the Brussels Santa Claus Parade on Saturday morning and didn’t stop hundreds from watching the parade. In addition a “Santa Claus is coming to town’ ’ poster contest was held in. the schools. In the Grade 3 contest, winners were Shannon Kuepfer, Michael Dau phin, Lori Ann Black and Teresa Bridge, all of Brussels Public School. Heather Somers and Jennifer Machan were the Grade 4 winners, both from Brussels Public School. Wong Yee Fun of Grey Central School took first place in the Grade fiye category, followed by Lori Jamieson, Lori Blake and Simeon Brubacher, all from Brussels Public School. In Grade six, Rhonda Heise and Tricia Duskocy were first, followed by Gerald Devries and Brad Beuermann, and Becky McArter and Kelly Overholt, all of Brussels Public School, and Krista Keffer and Jan Van Kueleu of Grey Central School. Brussels Public School swept the grade seven awards. Elizabeth Harris and Tammy Rose were first. followed by Andrew Perrie and Paul Kitchen, Hope Jacobs and Heather McDonald, and Chantelle Stephenson and Nicki Gropp. Councillors upset Continued from page 1 which had to be back to Seaforth for that town’s parade in the after noon. Councillors said it would be bettertohavethe Brussels Pipe Band alone and have the parade in the afternoon. It was suggested that rather than the expense of candy, free skating could be provided at the arena or some other attraction that would keep children and their parents in the village for a few hours and keep shopping money at home. There will be another meeting of the parade committee in January to reviewthe 1985paradeand look ahead at next year. Council is hoping that more parts of the community will get involved at that time. j NOTICE ALL NIGHT STREET PARKING Due to municipal snow removal operations, notice is hereby given that the bylaw governing the parking of cars on town streets during the winter months [Dec. 1 to April 1] will be strictly enforced.
