Good demand at Brussels Stockyards Friday The market at Brussels Stock- yards traded on a good demand with choice quality steers and heifers selling at premium prices and heavy and overfinished cattle being discounted. Cows and pigs sold barely steady. There were 801 cattle and 695 pigs on offer. Nominations wanted for conservation award BY BRIAN HALL FARM MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST O.M.A.F. The Huron Soil and Crop Improvement Association is look­ ing for landowners and tenants who have managed their farms to conserve soil, water, and otiier natural resources through various conservation practices. The Soil and Crop Improvement Association is recognizing such individuals with the Norman Alex­ ander Conservation Award. Esta­ blished in 1980, the award named after Norman Alexander for his work in conservation has recogniz­ ed individuals John Hazlitt, Don Lobb, Whyte Brothers, Bert Viss- Choice steers sold from $82 to $86 with a sale at $91.75 per hundredweight. Good steers were $78 to $82. A fancy steer consigned by John VanNynatten of RR 5, Mitchell weighing 1080 lbs. sold for $91.75 with his offering of 19 steers cher, Hogan Brothers and Gordon Lobb. The Association is currently seeking nominations for the award and over the next several weeks will be visiting nominees to select the recipient of the award in 1986. I know there are many deserving individuals in Huron who could be nominated for the award. If you know of someone in your area, I’m sure that individual would be honoured to be nominated. Nominations must be received over the next couple of weeks, since selection for the award is done in September and October. Twenty-six steers consigned by Ed McCann of RR 3, Dashwood averaging 1089 lbs. sold for an overall price of $84.11 with sales to $87. Thirty-eight steers con­ signed by Maple Emblem Farms of Dungannon averaging 1256 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.54 with a fancy steer weighing 1130 lbs. selling for $91.75. Six steers consigned by David Hodgins of RR 8, Parkhill averaging 1068 lbs. sold for $83.50. Choice exotic heifers sold from $81 to $86 with a sale to $95.50. Choice white-faced heifers were $77 to $81. A heifer consigned by Larry and Any Junior Farmer member can attend by contacting their club president. A heifer consigned by his son Brian weigh­ ing 1100 lbs. sold for $91.25. Thirty-five heifers consigned by Fred Marshall of RR 3, Fergus averaging 1116 lbs. selling for an overall price of $81.57 with sales to $83.50. Eighteen mixed heifers consigned by Scotts Elevators of Lucan averaging 1057 lbs. sold for an overall price of $78.54 with sales to $82. Four heifers consigned by Jerry view Farms of RR5, Mildmay averaging 1060 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.27 with a sale at $85. Choice cows were $50 to $54 with a sale to $59. Good cows were $46 to $50. Canners and cutters were $42 to $46. Thirty to 40-lb. pigs traded to a highof $1.65 per lb.; 40to50-lb. pigs to a high of $1.38; 50 to 60-lb. pigs to ahigh of $1.34; 60 to 70-lb. pigs to a high of $1.20; 70 to 80 -lb. pigs to a high of $1.09.
