Devotions were opened by Mel- va Fraser. The hymn, “In Christ there is no East or West,” was sung accompanied by pianist Margery Huether. Melva read an article; God called the church to be for all Nations. Margery Huether read a poem followed by prayer. Melva gave ‘‘Food for Thought’’ followed by the offering f W alton I \ \ Mrs. Betty McCallX' —7 887-6677 Walton Brewers win semi-finals The Walton Brewers Intermedi­ ate men ball team won the semi-finals in their division over Chatsworth on Sunday. They go on toplay with Walters Falls Monday evening. Good luck boys. The Pee Wee boys ball team lost their first game on Sunday to Milverton in the W.O.A.A. semi­ finals. They will play the next four nightsif necessary and weather permitting. People around Walton Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles and family attended the wedding of their grandson. Danny Achilles and Karen Atcheson Friday even­ ing at the Central United Church, Stratford and the reception at Majestic Wl sees woodworking The Majestic Women’s Institute met at the Library at 2 p.m. and 20 members in spite of the inclement weather motored to the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs Leo Sanders, who graciously received them to view their skilled wood craftsman­ ship. They were thanked for their Shakespeare. A large number of friends also were guests from this area. Jerry, Linda Achilles and family called at the Achilles home Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Gordon Mitchell and Doug and Mrs. Emerson Mitchell visited lastThursday with Mrs. Lillian Beer at Westminster Campus, London. Lillian returned home Friday and is spending this week with Luella Mitchell in Brussels. George Love Jr. was admitted to Seaforth Hospital on Friday. Viola Kirkby had the topic and took us on her recent tour to Alaska. Jean Bewley showed her pictures of Fairbanks to the Yukon, to Point Barrel, part of the Arctic Ocean. Members sang “Home on the Tundra’ ’, to the tune of ‘ ‘ Home on the Range,” that they sang while on the bus. Marie Coutts presided for the business. Audrey Hackwell read minutes and thank you cards. There were 14 members answered the roll call, and two guests were present. Doreen Hackwell gave the treasurer’s report. Announcements were given a- bout coming events. Fall Rally at Winthrop, Sept. 29 at 6:30. October 2 is Communion Sunday; Oct. 9 quilt display and tea afternoon and evening. Plans were made for the anniver­ sary service this coming Sunday at 11 a.m. Names were chosen to bring sandwiches and squares for the lunch following the service. The turkey supper in November was discussed with prices to be the same as last year. There is to be a bale packed this fall, articles to be left in the church basement between October 10 - 26. Resigna­ tions are to be in by the end of September. Invitations were received from Brussels United Church to their Thankoffering, Sept. 28; Blyth U.C.W. for a Thank offering Oct. 5 and Blyth U.C.W. for the Harvest Bonanza, Oct. 29-31. A discussion was held on the purchasing of carpet for the library, and a committee was appointed, consisting of Mrs. Ida Evans, Mrs. Peg Cudmore, Mrs. Iona Moore and Mrs. James Bridge. Mrs. Marie McTaggart gave a report of the District Executive meeting held in Ethel. Miss Lisa Duizer of the Londes- boro 4-H club was the recipient of the Huron County W.I. Scholar­ ship and has enrolled in a four year dietetic program at Guelph Univer­ sity. The annual Bazaar will be held Oct. 17 in Library, and committees were named. Mrs. Lyle Brothers and Mrs. Merv Pipe were appointed to look after the Brussels Fair Display, which is to include five articles depicting the 125 years of the Fall Fair. The Huron County Fall Rally will be held at Walton Community Hall, Oct. 6 with registration at 9:30a.m. Delegates are Mrs. Clem McLellan and Mrs. Jim Bridge. Volunteers for the bake table were Mrs. Peg Cudmore and Mrs. Marie McTaggart. The 87 District annual. will be in Molesworth and 88 in Moncrief. A quilt display will be put on by the Walton W.I. on Oct. 9 in Duff’s United Church. The Guelph Area Convention is I being held in Maryhill on Oct.I 23-24 with the theme “Peace Begins With Me”. Delegates to be appointed. Business pertaining to a quilt block and co-ordinator was held over. Mrs. Margaret MacLeod gave the motto: “It is not what we start, but what we finish. Happy Birthday was sung to two members, and lunch served by hostesses appointed.
