Old tractors, books combine for unique hobby BY TOBY RAINEY Haugholm Books of Bruce- field returns to the Thresher Reunion again this year with an even greater variety of glorious volumes, something for every­ one who has ever loved ma­ chinery, or who has ever had an interest in any source of agriculturalpower, from the humble draft horse to the most modern diesel giant. Operated by Janice and Allan Haugh of A. J. Haugh Equipment Ltd., Haugholm Books specializes in classic tractor books, but the collection includes books on gasoline engines from the earliest days to the present, steam power, antique and modern automo­ biles, trucks, trains and planes, as well as volumes on early farm life, agricultural history, heavy horse and driving horse man­ agement, and a wide selection of books on collecting items related to all of the above. But most intriguing of all is the store’s impressive array of old machinery manuals and catalogues, fine quality re­ prints of scores of titles repro­ duced from material in the largest collection of original farm machinery literature in the world, prices ranging from under $2 to under $10. Available are such manuals asthel909J.I. Case catalogue, complete with price lists and spec tables; a 1919 “Tractor Operating Book and Direc­ tory,’’ with page after page of repair hints; and an instruction manual for the Advance- Rumley Oil Pull motor and transmission fundamentals, lavishly illustrated with step- by-step directions for repair work.
