The craft show was a relative ly late addition to the Thresher Reunion. When Anne Mclnnes moved to Blyth in 1973 there was only a small crafts display. She brought with her experi ence in helping plan and run the Huron-Bruce Arts and Crafts show at Ripley so she got involved in running the crafts show at the Thresher Reunion. She’s not even certain what year it was but thinks it was about 13 years ago she took part in her first show. Then it was located in the old agricultural show hall, just inside the main gate of the grounds. Later the craft show took over the steel-shed further back in the took over the entire arena floor. This year the space for the show is already booked up. Mrs. Mclnnes was in charge of the craft division until after that 1983 show. The crafts since then have been run by Joan Houston of Owen Sound. The crafters come from all over southern Ontario for the show. As an exhibitor herself, Mrs. Mclnnes finds sales at the show are strong. The number of people liable to see a crafter’s work at this show is much higher than at most craft shows that operate on their own. The craft show was originally added to the Thresher Reunion in order to give women some thing to do while men were watching the equipment. In the early years, she says, men tended to come alone because most women lost their enthus- up a large part of the attend ance at the craft show but, Mrs. Mclnnes says, it’s surprising to see how many men come to look at the crafts too. In the early days knitting, crocheting, and woodworking dominated the show. Today there are still plenty of those crafts on display but also things like ceramics, puppets, glass cutting, candles, jewellery antiques and collectibles and much more have found their way into the show in recent years. This year there will again be clowns at the show and children will have a chance to have their faces made up in clown make up. This year’s craft show will begin on Friday and run from 12 Continued on page A-10 Radford Auto, Farm and Industrial Parts and Radford Construction want to welcome everyone to the 25th Annual Threshers Reunion Have a safe and happy trip! ................................ grounds but it soon outgrew that too.
