Lamble, diploma. Senior teacher Marie McGavin presented Nancy Godkin with her nine-year bar and nine-year seal; Brian Love, seven-year bar and seven-year seal. Promoted from primary to junior were Lisa Gingerich, Trish Clark, Stacey Linton, Sarah Lamble and Amanda Gamble. Promoted from junior to senior were Susan Carter, Greg Clark, Liz Lamble, Danny Taylor and Chris Eckels. Bonnie Lamble who chose as the sermon, “The Chal­ lenge of Faithfulness’’. Helen Williamson greeted worshippers. Elva Wilbee was organist. Ushers were Ken McDonald, Doug Fraser and Neil McGavin. The Walton Board meeting is to be held next Sunday evening at Viola Kirkby’s home. Next Sunday is Bluevale Anniversary (no ser­ vice at Walton). Just a reminder that a canvasser will be calling on those in the village as this is Arthritis month. The 12th Annual Walton Squirt Tournament began Aug. 22-23 but was cancelled on the Friday night due to rain and continued this weekend with Clinton winning the “B“ Championship and Mitchell capturing the “A” for the second year. Teams taking part were Win­ throp, Belgrave, Brussels, Hullett Twp., Walton, Mitchell, Clinton, Bluevale, Belmore and Colborne Township. Play got underway at 6:30, Aug. 22 with Belgrave defeating Win­ throp 14 to 9. This was followed by Belmore winning against Brussels 5 to 1. The final Friday night game saw home team Walton defeating Hullett Township 9 to 1. Saturday morning dawned clou­ dy and with our fingers crossed, but to no avail as Mitchell and Clinton squared off the first game. Thentheraincamebut Mitchell had defeated Clinton 18-2. The remainder of the Tournament was cancelled, rescheduledfor Sep­ tember 5-6. Friday night at 7 p.m. saw Colborne losing to Bluevale 12 - 5. This was followed by Belgrave beating Brussels 17 - 3. The first game Saturday morn­ ing saw Belmore defeating Win­ throp 4-2. The next game between Hullett Township and Clinton was a real battle which took 11 innings before Clinton finally came out victorious with a score 9 - 8. The next game saw Bluevale winning over Belmore 5-1. The “B’’ final for the Gerald Ryan Memorial Trophy went at 3:30 with Clinton and Belgrave battling to a 10-8 score in Clinton’s favour. The “A” final for the Don Achilles Memorial Trophy saw Mitchell playing which Mitchell won 9 - 0. The four final teams received crests and 10 boys received $100 and a hat donated by McGavin Farm Equipment for a clean home run. The Walton Area Sports Club would like to thank all the coaches and polite, well behaved boys for taking part in the tournament. You all played well and are to be congratulated. Also special thanks is extended to all volunteer help in the booth, umpiring, announcing and odd jobs. Without you the Tournament would not exist.
