In deciding tobring back Colleen
Curran’s hit from the 1984 season,
“Cake-Walk”, the Blyth Festival
wasn’t taking any risk. In deciding
to completely revamp the show
with a new cast, new director and
new set, the Festival took a big risk,
and won.
What all this proves first and
foremost is how funny a writer Ms.
Curran is. The faces of the cast
change and the interpretations of
the roles change but those zingy
Curran lines still sneak up on you
and catch you by surprise.

Last Tuesday night’s opening
had the usual rough spots as actors
adjusted to having an audience for
the first time but it featured what
has been a trade mark of the 1985
Festival: strong acting throughout
the entire cast.
Layne Coleman who has made
himself a part of the Festival as an
actor, writer and director, guides
the cast through the production in a
clean, efficient manner, for the
most part letting the comedy come
out by itself, not resorting to
slapstick or mugging. He was
