Were you able to visit the
Canadian National Exhibition this
year?
Yes, the Midway was busy with •
families and young people enjoy
ing the many rides and carnival
games. There was also an oppor
tunity to shake the hand of Premier
David Peterson as he and his
children toured about on Thursday
afternoon. One of the treats in the
Food Building was pork kabobs
from a Greek restaurant, and the
Italian and Japenese foods were
also very popular. With the
Snowbirds rehearsing for the
upcoming air show, the pig races
and horse jumping and flower
show in the Agricultural Building,
there was a great variety of things
to do and see.
One of the most exciting exhibits
was in the Automotive Building - a
display of wood carvings with
entriesfromOntario, otherpro-
vinces and the United States. Well
over 1,000 carvings were on hand.
In the winners’ class, the Old

in a pickle
BY CHERID A G ARNISS
The fifth meeting of the Brussels
I “Cool Cucumbers” was held at
the home of Barb Graber on
Wednesday, August 27 at 7 p.m.
Members answered the roll call
and took up the home activities.
The meeting was about different
kinds of pickles and how to can and
preserve them. The members
made dill pickles and started to
make seven-day pickles. Then they
discussed what had to be done for
the home activities. They then
adjourned the meeting with the
4-Hmotto, “Learn to do by doing.”
