Check power steering fluid to prevent trouble As the steering wheel in your car is turned, the power steering pump forces fluid through a pressure line to a control valve. The valve mechanically senses the need for steering in one direction or the other and it directs the fluid to the power cylinder to make steering easier. FLUID RESERVOIR CHECK The fluid reservoir on the power steering pump usually contains a dipstick for checking fluid levels. It is mounted in the forward section of the engine compartment. With the engine off, clean the outer surfaces of the fluid reservoir before opening the cap and removing the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add power steering fluid. Do not overfill. The power steering system must be filled to the proper level at all times.
