reported several enquiries to the

Farmers should request the
person representing an oil
company to produce a licence
from. the Ministry of Energy
before discussing oil leasing, the
Federation says.
The going rate is $1 per acre,
however some farmers have been
approached to sign leases at 50
cents per acre. Farmers should be

the present time it was sufficient.

The municipal elections are
over. Brussels has a new reeve,
but one who is an old hand at
dealing with municipal affairs and
two new, councillors. We Wish
them well. May our 1977 council
acquire the knowledge and have
the foresight and wisdom to deal
adequately with the weighty
problems that will be theirs to
solve for the good of all our
residents.

registered to their deed for the
total term of the lease.
If an oil company is in.default of
payment in subsequent years, the
landowner will discover that the
lease remains attached to his
deed until either the oil company
releases it or the farmer gets legal
help to prove -that the lease, is in
default.
The' Ontario Ministry of Natural
Resources provides all oil *
companies with a standard lease
with sections in it to protect the
landowner from future liabilities.
This lease is not intended to
replace the use of other lease
" forms.
Before drilling for oil, all
companies must apply to the
Ministry of Energy for a drilling
permit. At this point, the Ministry
. of Natural Resources insists on
strict control of all construction to
protect the landowner, the
Federation says.
Mr. Bean would recommend
that fanners should get legal
advice if they're in doubt about
entering into an agreement with
an oil company.
In practise it has been
established that farmers leasing
with major oil companies have
had few complaints and
concerns. • Farmers should
investigate, getting as much
information as possible before -
signing, the Federation says.

Christmas is a time of joy and
happiness, gaily decorated
Christmas trees, family
gatherings, and the house filled
with the delicious smell of
Christmas goodies, being
prepared. Christmas
unfortunately has hazards too. Do
not leave young children alone in
the home while you rush out to
purchase that last Christmas gift.
Do not let that beautiful natural
tree dry °tic for all too quickly it
can go up in flames. Check for
frayed tree light cords, they are
dangerous.. Dispose quickly of
Christmas wrapping. Watch out
for burning cigarettes carelessly
handled:
