When one first learns that the
`Shakir strip" is being used, by
UNICEF workers, the mind
boggles. The phrase conjures up
risque images not usually
associated with the. United
Nations Children's Fund, a most
serious organization.
• But the "Shakir strip" isn't
what it sounds like. It's actually a'
piece of non-stretch material
which can be made from old X-ray
film. 'And it is used to locate
starving youngsters in time to
save them. '
The strip is marked with red,
yellow and green zones, and
Young Peoples.
The group will have a team
represent them in a volleyball
tournament on. unday in Atwood.
Several games were played,
and the meeting closed with
songs and prayer.
