'One purpose of the Madill
Mirror' is to let the public, as well
as other students, know our
opinion on certain current issues
which affect us. - The
announcement of -a. mandatory
curriculum in grade 9 and 10 have
brought a variety of feelings to
those of us at Madill.
Every student entering grade
9in Septemb r 1977 and after will
be required to take nine
compulsory subjects to graduate.
Most of the mandatory
curriculum will be requited in
grades 9 and 10. This was
announced recently by Education
Ministery Tom Wells.
Will this make much difference
to the students of Madill? My
eelings are that it will not. It may
hange the year in which you take
• atn courses . For instance, you
.y have to take History in
odes 9 and 10 as Canadian
dies instead of Law or some
ether Canadian course in grades
11 and 12.
I feel we are very lucky at

In the junior boys division the
Madill team led by Shane
Purdon's 8th place, Gord
Kinahan's 11th place, and Keith
Metzger's 23rd placed finisher
took #6 position. John Passcheir
completes the junior team.
The junior football team has
been improving• with every game
and October 14th was no
exception. Our defense played a
flawless second half. The
Clinton team Was unable to gain a
first down and they ' never
advahced the ball beyoung their
own 35 yd line. Our defensive fine
consisting of

Doug Morland,
Eric Neissort, Brian Jefferson,
Arch MacDonald and Steve
Hamilton played art exceptional
game.

meet these requirements if they
have really tried. Teachers and
councillors can not do everything;
they must have the co-operation
and hard work ,of the student as
well. There are few times whena
person asks for help that he does
not receive it. Can the students of
other area high schools says this
truthfully?
I think the teachers, councillors
and principals of F.E. Madill S.S.
deserve a round of applause.

classes have been overwhelmed.
by Mr, Gnay's 'fat jokes' along
with an abundance of dieting
advice(and living proof that it
doesn't work).
It always seems that the
teachers who are young at heart
supervise our annual grade nine
night. Usually they are almost as
hilarious as the ankle-biters, Mr.
Wood was very unconspicuously
bopping about doing the
Charleston , Pinkie toes (or as
some know him, Mr Mali) tried to
revive Tiny Tim 's Tip Toe
throught the Tulips', and Mr.
Zankowski didn't have • to do
anything out of the ordinary.
Madill's detectives are once
more roaming the halls looking
for the lost needle for the record
player in our. student lounge. But
we have a class of probable
sup spects -Mr . MacLennan's
because his math class would
much rather listen to record than
to him.
As further evidence that
F.E.M.S.S.is a 'Bird Cage' a
sparrow invaded the cafeteria last
Tuesday. It was one time we
could have done without gifts
from above.
