NOV 11—NOV 17
By Joe Smulevitz.
Strong ` winds that buffeted
most of Ontario on Monday
tapered off by Tuesday when a
ridge of high pressure moved
across the area. Moving eastward
it brought sunny skies with near
normal temperatures through
Wednesday.
An arctic high pressure system
to the west and a low pressure
system to the northeast produced
a strong flow of northerly air on
Thursday. Temperatures fell
sharply during the day with
afternoon readings no higher than
0 degreeta C. Snowflurries were
observed .throughout the ,region
but accumulation was slight. The
snowflurries were caused by polar
air moving across Lake Huron.
The lower parts of the air were
warmed and moistened by the
water. This warmed air rose,
through colder upper air, causing
snowflurries on the leeward ,side
of the lake. • These weather
conditions persisted through Fri-
Camping was the topic when
about 80 Girl Guide leaders from
Western Ontario held their
annual meeting at SDHS
Camping displays were set up
around the gym and guest
speaker was the director of the
Guides Camp , Keewadin, (on
Lake Huron, near Goderich) Mrs.
Frances Broughton of Guelph.
Only Rangers are active in
Seaforth now, Mrs. Newnham
says, but there are more than 20
Brownies and some Guides who
only need leaders to get meetings
started.
The event was organized by
Seaforth and Brussels leaders,
including Barb Watts and Bessie
Blenkhorn,Brussels and Gloria
Reeves, Lennie !Stlinnissen and
Vivienne Newnham, Seaforth.

It was Wednesday, October
29th, when Mrs. Szarek brought
two male gerbils to our
classroom.The reason why she
brought two males was because
Mrs. Kirkby had two females, so
we switched one of bur males for
one of the females. When we put
1 .them together, they started
fighting. When half the day was
over they had become good
friends. All we hope for nlaw are
baby' gerbils..

day with below normal tempera-
tures.
High pressure building east-
Ward.from the Gulf states dimin-
ished the strong flow of cold air
during the weekend. The warm-
ing trend that started on Saturday
saw temperatures reach the mid-
dle teens by Monday when a
warm front moved across the
area.
The period saw a continuation
of arctic high pressure systems
becoming stagnant as , they ap-
proached the warmer waters of
the Atlantic. This has resulted in
cold snaps of short duration
followed by mild temperatures
with sunny skies.
The extended outlook indicates
above, normal temperatures
lowering to near normal by
Thursday and below normal for
the weekend. An area of low
pressure building in Colorado is
likely to bring rain late Wednes-
day or Thursday. Snowflurries
may. develop on Friday or Satur-
day.
Yukon this summer.
She stressed that Guide
meetings and activities are open
to the public. "The whole process
is designed to make girls good
citizens," and you can't do that in
a vacuum, she said.
Brussels has active' Brownie
and Guide groups.

dinner meeting included: Maple
Leaf Training Certificate to Mrs.
Irene Bell, Stratford; 10-year

Theatre Passe Muraille's
widely acclaimed new play about
the Prairies, "The West Show",
will • be presented in Blyth.
Memorial Hill for one night only
on Monday, December 1st.
Proceeds from, the performance
will help defray the cost ,.of
materials for the LIP funded
improvements to the interior of
the Memorial Hall.
John Diefenbaker, Tommy
Douglas and the legendary hero,
Gabriel Dumont, are among the
characters recreated by David.
Fox, Eric Peterson, Ted Johns (a.
native of this area), Miles Potter,
Janet Amos, and Anne Anglin
(wife of director Paul Thompson).
Each of these actors is well known
here . for performances in "The
Earm Show" and subsequent
Passe Muraille productions.
John Diefenbaker saw a special
performInce of "The West
Show" given in his honour as part,
of the Saskatoon celebration of
his eightieth birthday. The actors
alternately moved and delighted
the audience with accurate and
occasionally outrageous glimpses
into the life of Mr. Diefenbaker.
A red river cart was built for
the show by Bob Pearson, stage
manager for Theatre Passe
Muraille and a native of Brussels.
The use •made of the cart in the
production has been described, by
a reviewer as "fabulously
imaginative".
"More satirically funny than 'The
Farm Show", say reviews from
Saskatchewan, " 'The West
Show' catches the many facets of
life on the Prairies, from the
Rebellion to recent fa
demonstrations with int t
understanding."
This show is fine 4
entertainment, and the I
performance 'will be the only
in Western Ontario. Perform
