Mr. and Mrs.. John Nottingham
of Ladner, B.C. and Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Rintoul of Seaforth
visited a week ago Sunday with
Mrs. Walter Broadfoot. Mrs. Mac
Engel of Cranbrook spent Mon-
day at the same home.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan. Searle,
R.R. 3, Walton, and Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Duncan, Brussels have
arrived home from Russel, Mani-
toba, where they visited with Mr.
and Mrs, Jim Duncan and baby
son.
Mrs. Earl Ritchey, Middleton,
N.S., has been visiting this past
week with her mother, 'Mrs.
James Payne.
We are glad to hear, Mrs.
Mervin Smith is able to be home'
from Seaforth Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Horace Rutledge
and family visited a week-ago
Sunday at the home of Mrs. Roy
Bennett.
Last Wednesday afternoon Mrs
Roy Bennett had the misfortune
to fall her way into the
Londesboro hall to attend the
Burns U.C.W. Bazaar and suffer-
ed a badly sprained ankle. Mr.
and Mrs. Horace Rutledge re-
turned for her Thursday, she will
spend the next couple of weeks at
their home in London.
Miss Joan Bennett left on
Saturday for Cuba, along with her
class from the St. Clair College
where they will spend 8 days.
There were 19 members from
the Walton W.I. who attended the
special evening as guests of the
Seaforth Institute on Monday.
Mrs. Merton Hackwell is sup-
ply teadhing for Miss Jessie Little
at the Seaforth Public School
while site is confined to Wingham
Hospitll.
Mr. 'and Mrs. Jack Smalldon
and Bob of Fort Erie spent
Saturday at the home of Mr.
Harold Smalldon and visited Mrs.
Ethel Smalldon at Ontario Hos-
pital, Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stevenson
spent a recent weekend at '

Mrs. Allen McCall
Walton I held their first meet-
ing for the fall project, "Lets
Bake Bread" at the home of the
leader, Kathy Achilles. The assis-
tant leader is Margaret Shortreed
The meeting opened with the
4ff pledge followed by the
election of officers: President;
Mary Searle, Vice-President;
Donna Reid, Secretary and press
reporter; rotating. The leader told
the basics of baking bread and
demonstrated whole wheat
freezer bread.
At the second meeting the six
members, Kim Humphries, Nanci
Bennett, Janet Flood, • Donna
Reid, Mary Searle and Margaret
Shortreed answered the roll call.
The freezer whole wheat bread
was cooked and later sampled
after preparing the basic white
bread. We decided to call our club
Walton I "Dough Girls".
The third meeting was held the
following week with all girls
answering the roll call. All
members participated in making
brown batter rolls, they were
baked and later they were sam-
pled. We were told of the way
yeast is used.
At the fourth meeting of the
Walton I "Dough Girls", we
discussed goodness of bread,
food guide. Basic rolled dough
had been made prior to the
meeting. Each member. partici-
pated in making fan tans, clover
leafs, breads and crescents, and
discussed the sour dough starter
while buns, etc. were baking.
The fifth meeting was opened
in the usual manner. For the Roll
Call each girl .was to bring your
loaf of bread you made at -home.
In the group work all partici-
pated making cheese puff . and
barbecued hamburgurger stacks.
. 17th and Boundary Unit Meets
Mrs. Jan Van Vleit Sr. was
hostess for the October unit
meeting at her home on Tuesday
afternoon.
Mrs. Ross Bennett opened with
a thought, "On every Thanks-
giving". Hymn, "Come, ye
thankful people, come" Psalm
100 was read, followed by prayer.
Mrs. Van Vliet chose as the
topic "Things I'm Thankful for"
closing with a poem "I'm Thank-
ful", Hymn, "Now thank we all
our God" was sung. A general
`Thanksgiving was repeated in
unison. The collection was re-
ceived and dedicated with singing
"We give Thee but Thine own".
Business was turned over to the
President, Mrs. Martin Baan.
The secretary, Mrs. Harold
McCallum read the minutes.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Ross
Bennett and the hostess, Mrs.
Vail Vliet followed by a social half
hour.
8th and 16th Unit Meeting
The October meeting of the 8th
land 16th unit was held at the
!11_111e of Mrs. Gerald Smith on
l'iednesday evening.
Mrs. Alvin McDonald opened
with a Thanksgiving poem,
Then and Now". Hymn, "Come ):e thankful people, come", fol.,
lowed by prayer and the scripture t,,e nding. Also a reading on "Crisp
October Hours".
