Manpower
has LIP
applications
Although mid-summer . seems
to be an inappropriate time to
think about winter storms and
seasonal shut-downs, now is the
time to be planning the L.I.P.
projects for the coming winter
months. The new program for
1975-76 has been announced by
Robert Andras, Minister of Man-
power and Immigration two
weeks agO.
During the past week, the
Canada Manpower Centre in
Listowel has received a supply of
Application Forms and Instruc-
tion Booklets to be distributed
throughout the area. Within a few
days, this material will be sent to
Municipal Councils, Service
Clubs, Business Organizations
and groups who have previously
sponsored L.I.P. projects.
Anew feature this year will be
the inclusion of private employers
in the realm of project sponsors.
From the standpoint of job-
creation and alleviation of the
chronic seasonal unemployment
problem in Canada, the Local
Initiatives Program has proven to
have succeeded in making the
greatest impact.
The deadline for submission of
project applications is Sept. 12;
1975. John Chippa, Manager of
the local Canada Manpower Cen-
tre, urges all groups, organiza-
tions and individual businesses to
consider the promotion of em-
plOyment opportunities during
the coming winter. Stephen
MacNeil is named as the L.I.P.
Liaison Officer for this area
during the application' stage. He
will be prepared to answer
questions and assist applicants
with their submissions.
