CLEAN UP TIME IN BRUSSELS- This week it looked as if everyone was cleaning
up and fixing up in Brussels. Workmen in the top photo were replacing a worn
down Sidewalk in front of St. John's Anglican Church. In the lower photo, Huron
County, workmen did some repair and patching work on some of the holes on
Brussels Main St, highway 12. (Photo by Langlois)

His artistry as a canoeist, and
his ability as a builder of acnoes,
has given Greg Cowai of Brussels
the reputation of an expert in the
handling canoes that extends far
beyond this locality.
Mr. and Mrs. Cowan were
invited to attend the Lumber Jack
Championships last week at
Hayward, Wis., U.S.A. to dem-
onstrate the art of paddling a 36
foot original birch bark canoe.
They headed opening events on
three days.

There are some things on T.V.

advertising of certain

YEAR — ISSUE No. 32 ONTARIO
WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 1976
They left home Thursday after-
noon, flew from Toronto tcDuluth
and drove 'from there 80 miles to
Hayward.
When they arrived the canoe in
which they were to demonstrate
had not been completely finished.
Mrs. Cowan, who is accustomed
to adding the artistic touches to
the canoes her husband builds,
was pressed into service to do the
art work.
While there Greg renewed a
friendship with Phil Scott, World
Champion Log Roller for five
years. In 1966-67 they had been
opponents in canoe races. Mr.
Scott haS given up canoe racing
and devotes his time to log rolling
In Hayward Mr. and Mrs.
Cowan were. royally entertained
by the manager of the Champion-
ships and thoroughly enjoyed
their visit there.
Returning home by way of
Chicago Greg met the man who is
the only other builder of fur-trade
•canoes similar to his own.
