Flood plain group plans brief
(Continued from Page 1)
would oppose the flood plain map
by claiming the criteria for
determining the flood plain is too
high, he said.
He said the draft copy should
be ready for an executive meeting
this week. The meeting will be
closed to the public, he said.
Whether the brief is submitted
to Brussels residents before the
meeting with the Ministry, will
depend on how quickly the
meeting takes place, Mr.Th omas
said.
He said if the meeting can't be
arranged quickly perhaps the
committee will publish the brief
or hold a public meeting.
Mr. Thomas said the
committee would like to get
through with this meeting as
quickly as possible,
The meeting held several
weeks ago gave the committee
the mandate to go ahead with tbe
. brief without returning to rho',
public for approval, he said,
Herb Stretton, vice chairman of
the committee, said he would be
willing to display the flood plait
map in his store and would be
willing to keep his store open for
the public.

There are some people who
cannot ignore the mournful
cheeping of a tiny baby bird in
distress. A sparrow built a nest in
the side porch of the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Cecil Moore of
Brussels. One day recently they
thought they heard a bird in the
house but could not find it.L titer
they discovered the sounds were
coming from inside the paneling
of their family room. They had to
remove some bricks from the
outer wall in order to fescue the
baby bird.They kindly returned it
to the nest from Where it had
fallen between the walls.

Brussels Public School students
were having a holiday on Friday.
Their teachers, however were
not. They were hard at work as it
was Professional Development
Day for them. It was a busy day
for them as the schedule included
a promotional meeting; working
on the graduation program, and
curriculum ,development.They
were not just relaxing and having
a lazy ,holiday, on a normal
teaching day, at the expense of
their pupils.

June first to June seven is Red
Cross Safety Week. While there
are 19% less drownings in 1974 ,
than in 1973 accidents with both
powered and non-powered boats
are unfortunately increasing at
the rate of 10% a year. Most
drownings are in the 13 to 21
year category with the 22 to 33
year close behind. Children need
constant. attention when in, or
near, the water at the lake, river
or swimming pool, They should
never be allowed to have
inflatable toys in the water. Too
often they drift out of the child's
reach and in trying to recover
them, children may go beyond
their depth and it takes only a
second for a tragedy to happen.
Observe water safety rules at all
titnes. ft can save your life and the
life of others.
