Students see. Black Creek

On. Wednesday, May 7th, the
Grade seven class left for Toronto
to see the Ontario Science Centre
and the Black Creek Pioneer
Village..
We left at 7:00 a.m, and arrived
in Toronto at 10:00.
The Science Centre is really
worthwhile, going to. It has all
sorts of items for everyone; from
the smallest brain in the world to
a push-button computer that
thinks for you within seconds.
Did you know that in a year one
paper mill can supply enough
paper to go around the equator
twelve times? and how many i
people halve told you they made
paper in their own kitchen? Well,
I found out for myself that it can
be done.
We then left the Science Centre
at about 2:30 and travelled to the
Black Creek Pioneer Village.
The village was quite
fascinating and talking to • the
older people was an eve,nt in
itself. One lady gave a• couple of
girls a piece of spice cake that was
baked in an early pioneer oven.
On we went to Daniels Barn
where we were taught how to flail
wheat upon th ., floor. The Ili
gentleman there s very nice
and showed us :1; the correct
technique on flailing the wheat
We stopped at MacDonalds for
supper. When we saw the menu,
all diets and calorie counting was
forgotten. When everyone was
finished, the long homeward trip
was to begin.

The past and the Present
On Wednesday,May 8 , Grade
7 from the Brussels Public School
went to the Ontario Science
Centre and to Black Creek
Pioneer Village in Toronto. We
left at 7:00 *o'clock to go to the.
Science Centre and arrived there
at 10:15: The Science Centre was
an elaborate building with carpet
through it. In the Science Centre
'there were many mechanical
instruments.There was a
typewriter that you could type on,
but before you st arted to type you
must push the "In" button. After
you finish typing you, push the
"out" button and you would hear
what you typed. We' departed
from the Science Centre at 2:30
and arrived at Black Creek
Pioneer Village at 3:15. I found
that I enjoyed myself much more
at the. Black Creek Pioneer Village
than at the Science Centre but
that's only my opinion. At the
pioneer village everyone was so
friendly to us. We saw Roblins
Mill where the wheat is ground
into flour. Where Daniel 'Flynn
used to live a lady was dressed as
a pioneer. I asked her if they
made candles .She said there were'
two ways in which to make
candles. One way is to make them
in moulds. This is done by pouring
hot wax into moulds and setting
the moulds in a place where they
would harden. After the wax had
hardened they put the moulds
into water so that the candles will
slip out of the moulds. The
furniture and chinaware were
beautifu. There were horses and
buggies that would take you
around the village.There were
many stores and buildings in the
village: A blacksmith shop, a
church, a shoe maker store, a
school, a mill, a gift shop, a town
hall, a fire hall, a gunsmith shop
and houses. 14 is just like our
community but it is much smaller.
This summer if you would like to
enjoy a day out I would
recommend a visit to Black Creek
Pioneer Village.

Our Grade 2 class of Brussels
Public School travelled to London
to see Garden Bros. 3-Ring
Circus. We all liked the lion and
elephant show, the motorcycle act
and the boy and girl doing tricks
on the bar. The class also liked
the 13 and 15 year-old boys
Walking on the tight rope. We all
laughed yvhen the dogs pulled
down the popcorn man's jeans.
We also liked the man jumping on
the horses. Everyone liked the
four plays that the two clowns
made. We all liked, the girl, on the
2 horses. We all enjoyed your
show very much.

Th‘ Three Ring Circus
On May 5th Grade 3 went to
Garden Brothers circus in
London. First we saw two clowns.
One wanted to ,go to the moon by
being shot out of a cannon. He
put on a helmet. It fit.
Everyone started to laugh
because he was too big to get in
the cannon. He found a skinny
clown,, but he did not want to go.
Well he ended up in the cannon
but when it was shot only some of
his clothes .went out of the
cannon.
Then we saw a.girl in the cage
with three • tigers and a lion. She
made them do tricks. We saw two
brothers from Germany on a high
wire. At intermission we' all
bought candy floss. It was good.
After that we saw ladies walking
on a big ball. They were good.
Then we saw elephants that could
do tricks with ladies sitting on
them. Then it was time to go
home, but I was sorry because I
liked the circus. I'm glad
Mrs. Wilson let us go.

Garden Brothers Circus
On May 5th Grade 3 went to the
circus in London. We left by bus
at 10:30 in the morning. Mr. Scott
drove the bus. Mrs. Machan and
Mrs. Richmond came to help look
after us. Everybody sang some
songs and talked' a lot on the bus.
When we got to London we saw a
lot of stores and houses. At
Treasure Island where we saw the
circus, there were a lot of buses
and school children. We went
inside up the stairs and tried to
find seats close to the center ring.
First they had -clowns that were
very funny. There was a lady in
with the lions. She was making
them do tricks. They even had
dogs, that could play basketball.
Some ladies and a man rode on
horses. The man kept falling pff.
Six elephants were there. One
picked a lady up by .its trunk.
People sold candy and things and
we had fun . spending our money,
There was a man riding on a
motorcycle on a tight rope. There
was-lots of music. People cheered
their hearts out. When the circus, was over we walked downstairs,
lined up and got on the bus, y04
would like the circus, I did.
