The Brussels Post, 1975-05-21, Page 6reached the huge city of Toronto at about 10:00. We toured the magnificent Science Centre and found many wonderful, scientific machines. After our nourishing lunch, which wasn't as cold as when we left home, we went to a paper- making demonstration and we were taught how to make paper in our own homes. After we absorbed all we possibly could in the few hours we had at the Science Centre we started off to Black Creek Pioneer Village. Actually the Village didn't look very interesting from the outside but it was a different situation when we reached the gate at the edge of the Village... We started off at a brisk walk to explore how people lived many years ago. It wasn't long till an elderly man of sixty-five or seventy came along with two beautiful black horses hitched up to a wagon. He asked us if we would like a ride and we graciously accepted the offer. He let us off at the Half-Way House which was a place where travellers stayed. We found many interesting pieces of furniture which had been used in the early pioneer years. Elderly ladies explained many things of which we saw. We decided we had better keep going in order to see the many other places there were yet to see. We visited the miller's home and were given a piece of spice cake that had been made that day in an oven over the fire. The printing press also added a great deal to my knowledge of newspapers in those days. Going to the barn in those days I'm sure wasn't a very big thrill. You would have to flail the wheat to- get grain and then grind the grain to get flour for bread or any kind of baking. The man in the barn showed us how to, flail the wheat and how to grind the grain. These were just a few of the places we visited and there were many other places I didn't see. I wished-we could have stayed longer since the people were so friendly and willing to answer our questions. We then left the land of pioneer living and started for home. We stopped at McDonalds for supper and everyone had ham. burgers and french fries before ourlong get g journeyhe chance home: If f you to go to the Ontario Science Cheennt ryena go Black Creek Pioneer Village, go andwo uld explore adv ise 'th enl. We had been planning an excursion for quite some time At 10:30 we got on the bus to go to the circus. We took our lunch. We were happy and excited. Mr. Scott and Mr. Mann drove the buses. We had to eat our lunch on ' the bus. When we got off the bus we lined up and Mr. Scott led us to our seats. Mrs. V,alder and Miss Mitchell watched that no one got lost. There were a lot of children. There was a lot of noise. We saw funny clowns throwing pies. One clown was fired out of the cannon. We saw men walking the tight rope. We saw elephants doing tricks. The dogs did tricks. One clown lost his pants. The tigers and lions were inside a big cage. They jumped from stool to stool, jumped through a fiery hoop and stood up on their hind feet.We saw some people jumping on and off horses. There was a man rode a motorcycle on a tight rope. We saw acrobats and jugglers. We saw a man swallow fire. • We had a treat of popsycles and ice cream. We got on the bus. One of the Grade 3 boys wandered but Mr. Scott got him. Some people sang on the bus. Some people blew horns. Some tired children slept. It was a happy Inside Howick Central Constable Wray's Visit Constable Wray, from the Goderich Detachment of the O.P.P., visited us on May 12, 13 and 14. He showed us pictures of the bicycle safety and we had to guess the safety rule. After, his presentation, questions were asked. I am sure everyone enjoyed Constable Wray's visit. Sorrie of these events were: a skatathon, hot dog sales, a snoopy-dog draw, a lottery and - an elephant salt. And they all led ip to our "trip to Ottawa". Soon after the children arrived at school they boarded the bus and were soon on their way to the Gardens in. London to see the "Garden Brothers Three-Ring Circus". Upon arrival, the excited children found their seats and were ready for the show to start. They saw lions, tigers, elephants,' and horses perform. They saw dogs dressed up playing basketball with balloons. They saw several tight rope acts including a motorcycle ride. They also saw a man eat fire and jump through swords that were on fire. I think most of the children liked the clowns the best. One clown was in a cannon and when it went off his clothes came out and he stayed' in. Later he came out and took after another clown with a bat as he was blaming him for all his problems. There were many other-clown acts that were lots of laughs. It was a very exciting day and the children thoroughly enjoyed the show. After the show, the children boarded the bus and arrived in Brussels tired but happy. By: Karen Knight, Grade 2. and will be returning Thursday. We are all looking forward to it, and I am sure it will be quite enjoyable.
