Assists went to Ken usins and Mike Watson. The Novice team played in the nual Listowel Tyke Tournament st Wednesday. Their first game ainst Moortown found them eking up a 4 - 2 win. Scoring for Brussels was Darrin Watts 2, Dean Rutledge 2, Doug Shaw 1, Kevin McArter 1, Paul Machan 1. Assists went to Robbie Cardiff, Kevin McArter, DArrin Watts, Dean Rutledge, Doug Shaw. The third game will be played Wednesday night at 6:30 in Brussels. In other tournament action the Atom "A" team captured the "C" championship trophy in the local Optimist tournament by defeating Palmerston- 4 - 3 in a very exciting game of hockey. Todd Wheeler picked up 2 goals, Terry McCutcheon and Kevin Deitner 1 each. Assists went to Brad Wright, Steve Knight, Danny Achilles, Kevin Deitner. On Sunday in the Grand Championship game against the "A" champion the home team played exceptionally good hockey but were defeated 4 - 2 by a good team from Merritton. Brussels goal scorers were Kevin Deitner and Todd Wheeler. Assists went to Kevin Wheeler and Kevin Deitner. Sticks went to the .most valuable player in each game played. Thos picking up the sticks in the four games that Brussels ' played were Terry McCutcheon, Doug McArter, Kevin Deitner and Neil Mitchell. Milverton Pee Wees at Brussels Friday 8:00 P.M. Milverton Midgets at Brussels Optimist tournament ends The Brussels. Optimist Atom Tournament came to a close Sunday night with Guelph Holody Platers edging Merritton 2 to 1 in the Grand Championship final. In this exciting and 'well p layed game Guelph broke the tie with 4 minutes to go and held on to their lead to emerge victorious. Guelph advanced to the Grand Championship final by overpowering Hanover 10 to 0 in semifinal action. Merritton reached the finals by nipping by Brussels 4 to 2. As well ' as grand championship play on the weekend, action took place in the "AAA" and "B" Divisions along with championship action in the "C" Division. In "AAA" play, Guelph emerged champions by defeating Riverside 6 to 4 in their final game,Guelph previously defeated Owen Sound 8 to 4 and Stratford 11 to 1. Riverside advanced to the "aaa" final by drubbing Mississauga 24 to 0 in their first game and then by defeating London 7 to 4 in their second game. In the "AAA" Consolation round Sarnia won the championship by defeating Owen Sound 5 to 3 in their second game and Kitchener Komets 4 to 2 in the final. Sarnia lost their first, game to Stratford in one of the most exciting games of the tournament. Brussels reached the "C' finals by slipping by Kingsville 4 to 2 and Milverton 4 to 3. Palmerston won their first two games beating Arthur 2 to 1 in overtime and Kitchener 9 to 0. In the "C" Consolation championship game, Kingsville defeated Arthur 4 to 2. Kingsville advanced to the final by defeating Howick 8 to 1. Arthur blanked Harriston 3 to 0 in their second, game. Hanover won this year's "B" Division championship by defeating last year's champion St. Marys 7. to 3 in the final. In reaching the . finals Hanover blanked Port Elgin 5 to 0 in their' first game and then defeated Walkerton 5 to 2 in their second game. St. Marys made it to the finals by edging by Orangeville 4 to 2 in their first game and. Clinton 3 to 1 in their second game. In "B" Consolation play Port Elgin emerged victorious by defeating Seaforth 6 to 4 in the final. Port Elgin defeated Mitchell 7 to 1 and 'Seaforth edged Orangeville 6 to 4 to reach the consolation Championship: MVP Awards M.V.P. awards for • each division were won by Jim Hunter from Riverside in "AAA" action, Don Gillingham from Merritton in "A" play, Randy Ellig from Hanover in the "B" division and Terry McCutcheon from Brussels in "C" division competition. The free week at the Billy Harris-Dave Keon Hockey school this summer was won by Robin Williamson from Palmerston. Goderich received the trophy for the most sportsmanlike team in the tournament. This year's tournament was a great success and supplied exciting and well played hockey for the residents of the Brussels area. The tournament committee would like to thank all those who helped in any way and a special thank you to the ladies who served the lunches and the people of the Brussels area who billeted players.
