The Brussels Lions •Club will
sponsor their annual Canoe Race
this Saturday, March 29th..
- The 1:30 p.m. start will take
place at the bridge one and a half
miles east of Ethel t, ,d will end at
the Brussels Lions Park. It is
estimated that the face should
take one hour plus.
This race will no doubt be a
, most interesting one. Water
conditions should be good and the
race fast, with the portage at the
Brussels darn providing added
excitement. Ten to fifteen are
expected to participate in the
professional class and more in
both amateur classes as the
response has been much greater
in those classes than was the case
last year.
With the number of canoeists
in competition, the water high
and fast, and the portage of the
dam in Brussels, the event should
provoke a great deal of interest
and attract many interested
spectators. you will not want to
miss it.
The Southwestern Champion
Races will be under the super-
vision of Greg Cowan with Lion
Don Laurie as committee
chairman.

Separate board
has over levy
The Sunday night high winds
and freezing rain that left some
communities without hydro power
until later in the next day did little
damage here except for early
morning slippery walks and
streets. Some rural telephone
lines needed attention. Half a tree
was down in the vicinity of Carl's
Body Shop but fortunat ely did
not bring down the power lines.
Lawns were littered with small
branches and twigs. Ice had
covered trees during the night
and there were flying b its of ice
pelting down in the morning.
Nasty little things to catch on the
face.

A broken water main caused
some trouble in the south eastern
area of the village last week. The
force of the erupting water broke
through the surfacing of the
centre of the street. However, the
break was quickly located and
repaired.
